Adriatic League, Game 9: November 11-12, 2006
FMP lost on the road to Zadar, opening the door for Partizan, Cibona and Hemofarm to grab a share of the Adriatic League lead with 7-2 records. Kosta Perovic led four players in double figures as Partizan cruised to an 82-55 win over KK Geoplin Slovan. Goran Vrbanc scored 23 to carry Cibona past Crvena Zvezda 83-70. Hemofarm overcame Split 85-76 as Nebojsa Joksimovic played 40 minutes and scored 18. In the Sunday game, Union Olimpija slipped to a 73-69 loss at Helios Domzale. Zadar rode a big performance from Todor Gecevski, who finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists, and outscored FMP in each period to win 86-67. In other games, Buducnost trounced Bosna ASA BHT 101-79 behind Vladimir Micov's big night that consisted of 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals, while Darren McClinton scored 23 to lead Siroki Prima pivo past KK Zagreb 91-84.
Uros Tripkovic scored 6 during a 13-2 second-quarter run as Partizan pulled away against Geoplin Slovan. The Serbian champs led 40-28 at halftime and Geoplin Slovan never got closer than 11 the rest of the way. Partizan's lead peaked at 69-39 after a Tripkovic layup early in the fourth quarter. Perovic scored 15, Nikola Pekovic 14, Luka Bogdanovic 13 and Vonteego Cummings had 10 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for Partizan. Emir Preldzic led Geoplin Slovan with 15. Cibona built a 26-13 lead after just 10 minutes, but Crvena Zvezda stromed back to make a game of it. The visitors closed to within 1 early in the third quarter and trailed 62-59 midway through the fourth, but Vrbanc answered with back-to-back triples to ensure Cibona remained on top till the end. Jamal McCullough added 13 for Cibona. Petar Popovic led Crvena Zvezda with 17, Pero Antic added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Nikola Vucurovic had 12 points and 9 boards and Antonio Burks finished with 10 points and 4 assists.
Union Olimpija never quit as its game against Helios Domzale came down to the wire, but it still lost for the fourth time in five games. Olimpija tied the game at 59-59 on Teemu Rannikko's triple with less than three minutes remaining. But the hosts went 8-for-8 from the line in the final two minutes to eek out the win. Sasa Doncic had 14 points and 10 boards and Aljaz Janza another 14 to lead six Helios Domzale scorers in double figures. Marko Milic led Olimpija with 19 points and 8 rebounds, Domen Lorbek added 14 and 8, Hasan Rizvic 11 points and 9 rebounds, while Rannikko chipped in 11. Zadar took advantage of FMP's 3-for-22 long-range shooting to earn the biggest win of the week. Gecevski led the way, while Julius Johnson added 18 and Carl English 12. Predrag Samardziski led FMP with 17 points and 7 boards, Dragan Labovic added 16 and Branko Cvetkovic 10. Hemofarm led 65-44 after 30 minutes before taking its foot off the gas against Split. Joksimovic had 18, Velimir Radinovic 14, Milenko Topic 13 points and 9 rebounds and Predrag Suput 13 points and 5 assists in the winning effort. Mateo Kedzo led Split with 23 points and 9 reounds.
