Bulgarian League Game 8: November 10-11, 2006
Unbeaten Bulgarian League-leader CSKA Sofia made a surprise coaching change mid-week, but still rolled to its eighth straight victory on Saturday. CSKA thrashed winless Spartak MVR 53-98 in its first game under new boss Kresimir Basic, a former Luxembourg national team coach, who took over for Jacob Gino. On the court, Adrian Pledger led CSKA with 16 points, while Brad Traina chipped in 15. Young Krum Doychinov, had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Spartak. Defending champs Lukoil Academic needed two overtimes to take a thrilling 113-116 win at Spartak Pleven. Lamont Jones's three at the buzzer tied the game at 83-83 at the end of regulation. The hosts led during the first extra session, but but Todor Stoykov came through from the line with three successful shots to knot the game at 103-103 after the first extra period. Jones, who finished with 42 points and 6 assists, was then able to produce the win in the second OT period. Riste Stefanov added 18 points, Georgi Davidov netted 13 and Thomas Mobley had 12 with 9 rebounds. Ilya Stankov and Tsevetoslav Ostrev tallied 23 apiece for Plevin. Yambol topped Cherno More IG, 88-76, raising its record to 5-3, behind 23 points from Decho Koeshinov. Balkan crushed Levski 86-77 thanks to 22 points from Milan Bjegovic, and Rilski Sportist beat Dunav 84-74 with Aleksandar Gruev contributing 22 points.
