Swiss League, Game 8: November 17-18, 2006
Olympic Fribourg remained the exclusive leader of the Swiss League after Round 7 by destroying BBC Monthey 101-56 to raise its record to 7-0, while Birstal Starwings suffered its first loss of the season at Lugano Tigers court. Olympic started the game on fire and led 13-4 after two minutes and 57-32 at halftime. Lorenzo Orr led the way by with 23 points while Dave Esterkamp and Brandon Polk chipped in 17 apiece. At Istituto Elvetico of Lugano, the Tigers topped Birstal 91-83 behind 23 points from Edwin Draughan and 22 by Andrija Crnogorac. At halftime the visitors were ahead 42-43, but the hosts used a 25-16 third quarter to put the game on ice. Lugano climbed to the third place with a 5-2 record. Sion Herens edged Geneva Devils 87-81 thanks to a 31-21 fourth quarter. Vincent Thomas was the main contributor with 22 points. In other games, Corey Williams scored 22 as Meyrin Grand Sacconex beat Lausanne Morges 62-60 and Nyon outlasted Boncourt 76-67.
