Belgian League, Game 11: November 19, 2006
Dexia Mons-Hainaut stayed a victory behind first place when it turned around a bad first quarter to blow away last-place Verviers-Pepinster 94-70 in the Belgian League over the weekend. George Evans led five double-figure scorers for Mons with 18 points. The news was not so good for the other ULEB Cup participant, Telindus Oostende, which lost at home to Antwerp, 77-82, a defeat that was followed by the dismissal of head coach Mihailo Uvalin. Among other results in the volatile Belgian League, seventh-place Bree knocked off visiting leader Charleroi 74-66 as Lynard Stewart poured in 23 points; fifth-place Liege ambushed second-place Okap Aalstar on the latter's court 104-113 in double overtime as Morris Finley scored 26; and Brussels won its second game 81-79 at home over Leuven.
Mons saw itself fall into a quick 14-26 hole to the visitors from Pepinster, who did not behave like a last-place team on the road. Mons turned things around quickly in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 31-12, and then kept it going through a 30-16 third quarter to take complete control. Evans got scoring help from Shawnta Rogers, with 16 points, and Jim Potter, with 13, while Dragan Markovic and Kevin Houston chipped in 12 each. Evans added 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals to his total. Oostende missed a big chance on its home court to position itself right behind leaders Charleroi, and the failure to do so cost Uvalin his job. Oostende held leads of 20-9, after Eric Hicks got rolling, and at halftime 43-38. The second half saw Antwerpen come back and make it tight, tying at 47-47. The visitors finally went ahead at 55-57 and quickly added points to take a comfortable 60-68 lead that they guarded the rest of the way. Hicks finished with 21 points for Oostende.
