British League, Game 8: November 17-19, 2006
The Sheffield Sharks cemented their spot atop the British League with a 60-66 win over second place Milton Keynes Lions on Sunday. The Sharks improved to 7-2, while the Lions dropped to 5-2. The game came down to the final minute before Todd Cauthorn iced the game from the free-throw line with 12 seconds to go. Sharks' Tony Windless led all scorers with 23, while Terrell Brown added 14. Jeff Bonds and Cauthorn had 12 apiece for Milton Keynes. Former league MVP Tony Dorsey had 12 points and 10 rebounds in his debut for Newcastle Eagles, but it wasn't enough as the defending champs went down to Kularoos Plymouth Raiders 81-75. Allister Gall put the game out of reach with a basket with 8.8 seconds to go and then Andrew Lasker stole the ball on the game's final play to seal it. Carlton Aaron led Plymouth with 18 points and 20 rebounds, while Gaylon Moore added 17. Shawan Robinson led Newscastle with 18 and Andrew Bridge added 15. The Scottish Phoenix Honda Rocks trashed Chester Jets 103-71 behind 29 points by Maurice Hampton. Julius Joseph and Rob Yanders added 20 points apiece, while Jets' Jaz Cowan scored 21. Sunday's other scheduled game between London United and Leicester Riders was postponed. On Saturday, the Guildford Heat beat London United 106-93 and the Leicester Riders topped the Worcester Wolves 62-84.
