Turkish League, Game 9: December 2-3, 2006
Fenerbahce Ulker defeated rival Galatasaray Cafe Crown 75–64 to remain one game behind unbeaten Turkish-League leaders Turk Telekom with 8 wins in 9 matches. Damir Mrsic had 18 and Eddie Badsen scored 8 in his debut for Fenerbahce, which was again without the suspended Mirsad Turkcan and the injured Will Solomon. Efes Pilsen struggled to beat Darussafaka 70–67. Cuneyt Erden hit the game-winning three with 4 seconds remaining as Efes held onto third place with a 7–2 record. Besiktas Cola Turka needed overtime to get past Alpella 79–80 and keep its spot in fourth place. Erkan Veyseloglu led five scorers in double figures for Besiktas with 18. Turk Telekom's ninth win was never in doubt as the league leaders crushed Beykoz 89–50. Telekon won the opening quarter 24-12 and led by 25 at halftime in a one-side blowout. Jan Hendrik Luko Jagla led the way with 30 points and 12 rebounds. CASA TED Kolejliler kept Tekel winless with a 56–74 win, as Charles David had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Marques Green had 9 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Pinar Karsiyaka needed overtime to edge Banvit 81–79, with Inanac Koc leading the way with 21. In other games, Mutlu Aku Selcuk University topped Oyak Renault 93–85 and Mersin B.B. Got the best of Tofas 72–74.
Fenerbahce got off to a rough start, trailing 2–10 after three minutes, but recovered quickly. Mrsic turned Galatasaray turnovers into fast break points and posted 10 points in 7 minutes to help his team to within 21–22 at the end of the first quarter. Semih Erden put Fenerbahce ahead 23–22 for their first lead at the beginning of the second quarter and never trailed again. Captain Ibrahim Kutluay and Erden led Fenerbahce to 38–34 at halftime. In the third quarter, Fenerbahce put defensive pressure on Galatasaray, increasing the lead to 10 points with Kaspars Kambala scoring inside. The lead swelled to 17 points (75 – 58) in the closing minutes with a three from Mrsic to win the game 75–64. Mrsic lead Fener with 18 points, Kambala had 12 points and 5 rebounds, Kutluay added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists and Erden finished with 10. Gerald Fitch led Galatasaray with 22 points and 9 rebounds, but also 9 turnovers. Darrel Mitchell had 17 points.
Efes Pilsen struggled to beat Darussafaka 70–67. Efes led 20–11 after 10 minutes with Kerem Gonlum leading the way, but could only manage 6 points in the second for a 26–20 halftime lead. In the third quarter Erden and Drew Nicholas extended the Efes advantage to 51–39, but Efes again struggled to score like in the second quarter and Darussafaka came back, leveling the game at 65-65 on a Mike Jones three pointer with 35 seconds to go. Erden’s three with 4 seconds left made it 68–65 and the hosts made their free throws to hold on to the victory. Nicholas lead Efes with 19 points and Gonlum had 16 points. Erden scored 16 points and added 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Marco Killingsworth had 21 points and Erdem Turetken 16, while Jones added 14 for Darussafaka. Besiktas Cola Turka needed overtime to get past Alpella 79–80 and keep its spot in fourth place. Even with big man Brooks Sales out, Besiktas dominated the boards 48-33. However the team struggled from beyond the arc, making just 4-of-28. Veyseloglu led five scorers in double figures for Besiktas with 18. Aubrey Reese scored 17 in 44 minutes, adding 6 assists and 4 steals. Djuro Ostojic had 16 and 10 boards, Cevher Ozer 15 and 14 boards and Bariz Guney 10. Caner Oner led Alpella with 29 while Curtis Withers added 17 points and 12 rebounds.
