Swiss League, Game 10: December 2, 2006
Olympic Fribourg earned sole possession of first place in the Swiss League by topping defending champion Lugano Tigers 70-80 at Istituto Elvetico of Lugano. Birstal Starwings, which shared first with Fribourg before the weekend, suffered a 92-86 loss at Geneva Devils to fall to second place with a 7-2 record. Olympic started out on fire by taking a comfortable 38-17 cushion after 11 minutes, and never looked back. Dave Esterkamp and Lorenzo Orr scored 15 points apiece for the winner, while former Lugano player Tresore Quidome added 13. Geneva edged Birstal Starwings with solid free-throw shooting down the stretch. The game was tied at 80-80 with a minute remaining, but four consecutive free throws posted by Franck Bennett made the difference. Cedric Mufuta chipped in 22 for Geneva and Robert Johnson added 15. BBC Monthey climbed to third place with the same 6-3 record as Lugano by outlasting Meyrin Grand Sacconex 99-82 behind 25 points from Yuanta Holland. Sion Herens took a huge 62-77 road win at Nyon, and Boncourt, led by 17 points from Kelyon Block, thrashed Vevey Riviera 91-45.
