Adriatic League, Game 12: December 2-3, 2006
Cibona kept its name atop the Adriatic League table with a 10-2 record by edging archrivals Zagreb 87-91 on the road on Sunday night. Davor Kus led the way with 20 points, including critical free throws to seal the win down the stretch. Three other teams - Partizan, Hemofarm and FMP - are right behind at 9-3. FMP needed double overtime to beat Union Olimpija 112-108 in Zeleznik on Saturday. Branko Cvetkovic led the winners with 30 points, while Aleksandar Rasic took the game to double overtime with a layup late in the first extra period. Ivica Jurkovic led Olimpija with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Partizan beat Siroki Prima Pivo 86-73 in Belgrade behind 25 points from Predrag Drobnjak, while Hemofarm thrashed Geoplin Slovan 63-83 on the road. Crvena Zvezda dropped to 5-7 due to a 94-81 road loss against Bosna Asa BHT. In other games, Buducnost edged Zadar 84-85 on a game-winning basket by Todor Gecevski while Helios Domzale beat Split 75-80 in overtime.
FMP needed double overtime to beat Union Olimpija 112-108 in an incredible game in Zeleznik on Saturday. FMP improved to 9-3 while Olimpija dropped to 5-7. Cvetkovic led the winners with 30 points on 9-for-12 shooting and 11 of 12 free throws. Rasic added 15 points, Ivan Todorovic had 14, Bojan Krstovic 13 and Milos Teodosic 10 for FMP. FMP led 79-71 with 2 minutes to go, but Jurkovic fired in back-to-back triple to keep Olimpija alive. Rannikko had free throws at 83-82, but made just 1 of 2 to make the game go into overtime. Rasic tied the game at 99-99, but then missed a desperation three-point shot which could have won it earlier for FMP. Once in the second overtime, a 7-0 run which Cvetkovic capped with a layup proved to be crucial, allowing the hosts to win a tough game. Crvena Zvezda dropped to 5-7 due to a 94-81 road loss against Bosna Asa BHT. Zvezda was without Milan Gurovic, who did not travel to Sarajevo. Petar Popovic, Tadija Dragicevic and Billy Thomas each had 15 points for Zvezda, while Edin Bavcic had 22 for Bosna, which led 42-26 at halftime and never had troubles to add an easier than expected win.
