Adriatic League, Game 13: December 9, 2006
Nothing changed atop the Adriatic League standings, as Cibona stayed ahead everyone else with a 11-2 record by thrashing Geoplin Slovan 100-81 in Zagreb on Saturday. Davor Kus led 5 Cibona players in double digits with 17 points on 5 of 6 three-pointers. FMP is now second with a 10-3 record by edging Helios Domzale 92-96 in overtime on the road. Branko Cvetkovic and Aleksandar Rasic led the winners each with 21 points. Both players combined for 29 of 30 free throws. Zadar, Partizan and Hemofarm now tie for the third place in the standings at 9-4. Zadar topped Partizan 92-86 at home behind 33 points from Carl English. Meanwhile, Hemofarm dropped to 9-4 due to a 69-76 home loss against Buducnost, which rallied from a 16-point deficit in the final 11 minutes to win the game in come-from-behind fashion. Teemu Rannikko had 18 points and Domen Lorbek added 17 to make Union Olimpija get a 87-76 home win against Zagreb, while Crvena Zvezda topped Split 88-79 in Belgrade behind 30 points from Petar Popovic. In other games, Siroki Prima Pivo topped Bosna Asa BHT 90-87.
Cibona lived up to the expectations by thrashing Geoplin Slovan 100-81 in Zagreb to improve to 11-2 atop the standings. Kus led the winners with 17 points on 5 of 6 three-pointers. Jurica Zuza and Marin Rozic each had 14 while Brent Wright and Vedran Morovic added 12 apiece for Cibona, which trailed 62-65 late in the third quarter. Morovic and Kus fueled a game-breaking 25-6 run which allowed Cibona to seal the win minutes before the final buzzer. FMP needed overtime to edge Helios Domzale 92-96 on the road and improve to 10-3 to stay second in the league board. Cvetkovic and Rasic led the winners each with 21 points. Both players combined for 29 of 30 free throws. Dragan Labovic added 18, Bojan Krstovic had 11 and Milos Teodosic 10 for FMP. Partizan dropped to 9-4 and joins a three-way tie for the third place in the standings due to a 92-86 road loss against Zadar. English led the winners with 33 points on 18 of 22 free throws. Dusan Kecman, Vonteego Cummings and Kosta Perovic each had 12 points for Partizan, while Luka Bogdanovic and Nikola Pekovic added 10 apiece. Partizan trailed 50-42 at halftime but a 1-14 run which Perovic capped with free throws tied it at 79-79 with 4 minutes to go. English and Rok Stipcevic combined for 10 points in crunch time to make Zadar get a prestigious home win.
Union Olimpija improved to 6-7 by downing Zagreb 87-76 in Ljubljana on Saturday. Rannikko led the winners with 18 points, Lorbek added 17, Ivica Jurkovic had 14 and Ender Arslan 13 for Olimpija, which trailed 64-73 midway through the final period. Back-to-back triples by Lorbek ignited the Olimpija comeback, as it was the start of a final 23-3 run in which he and Rannikko combined for 15 points, enough to seal a tough home win. Crvena Zvezda also improved to 6-7 by topping Split 88-79 in Belgrade. Popovic paced the winners with 30 points on 10-for-15 shooting, Milan Gurovic added 20 and Billy Thomas 12 for Zvezda, which led 24-10 after 10 minutes and managed to keep a safe margin all the way until the final buzzer. Hemofarm dropped to 9-4 due to a 69-76 home loss against Buducnost in Vrsac. Goran Jeretin led the winners with 20 points. Vladan Vukosavljevic had 13 points for Hemofarm while Milenko Topic added 11 and 12 rebounds. Hemofarm led 62-48 after three quarters, but a 4-21 run allowed Buducnost to get a 66-69 edge. Nebojsa Joksimovic tied it with a three-point play, but Buducnost capped the game with a 0-7 run to win the game down the stretch.
