Belgian League, Game 14: December 9, 2006
Spirou Charleroi and Sanex Antwerp G keep tying for the top spot in the Belgian League standings, each with a 10-4 record, while Dexia Mons-Hainaut just one win away at 9-5. Charleroi did not find much problems to beat Atomia Brussels 65-52 in the Spiroudome on Saturday. Tremmell Darden led the way with 19 points while Corey Brewer added 13 for Charleroi, which led 53-31 after three quarter to cruise to a well-deserved win. Meanwhile, Antwerp had to work hard to edge Basket Gr Leuven 67-71 on the road behind 19 points from Gur Shelef. The guests led 45-55 after 30 minutes and held off a late Leuven rally to win the game. Mons improved to 9-5 by beating dangerous Liege Basket 72-81 on the road. Kevin Houston led the winners with 24 points, George Evans and Shawnta Rogers each added 14 while Dragan Markovic had 11 for Mons, whose power forward Bingo Merriex was finally back in action. Mons trailed 58-50 after three quarters but Evans and Houston allowed the guests to rally and seal a tough road win. Telindus Oostende dropped to 8-6 due to a 88-67 road loss against Euphony Bree. Kelvin Tolbert and Brian Lynch each had 18 points for Bree, while Rashad Wright scored 21 for Oostende. Finally, Verviers-Pepinster upset Okapi Aalstar 56-81 behind 26 points from Thomas Gardner.
