French League, Game 14: December 9-10, 2006
Tariq Kirksay - SLUC Nancy Sluc Nancy keeps tying with Chalon for the top spot in the French League standings at 11-3 by downing Pau-Orthez 80-65 at home on Sunday. Tariq Kirksay led the winners with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Branko Milisvaljevic added 16, Cyril Julian had 12 while Maxime Zianveni and Cedric Banks each added 10 for Nancy. Ricardo Greer had 23 points for Pau while Michael Bauer and Britton Johnsen each had 10 for the guests, who dropped to 6-8. Ricky Soliver and an outstanding Kirksay shined in the second quarter to make Nancy get a 41-30 halftime margin. Greer, Johnsen and Bauer combined for all points in a 0-13 run which tied it at 43-43, but Nancy answered with its own 12-2 run which Milisavljevic capped with a jumper to make Nancy regain a 55-45 lead after three quarters. Greer still brought Pau within 61-58, but Banks, Julian and Kirksay allowed Nancy to seal a well-deserved win. Le Mans had to battle hard to edge Besancon 73-71 and improve to 7-7 in the standings. Sandro Nicevic led the winners with 16 points, Nebojsa Bogavac added 13 and Yannick Bokolo 11 for Le Mans. A 16-0 run which in which Nicolas Batum had 5 points allowed Le Mans to get a 35-28 halftime lead. Besancon rallied to have a 39-43 edge, but Nicevic and Bogavac led a 21-2 run which put Le Mans fully ahead, 60-45. The guests got within 72-71 but Bogavac sealed the win with a free throw. Strasbourg had less troubles than expected to thrash Reims 80-53 and improve to 7-7 in the league board. Lonnie Cooper led the way with 13 points, Dirk Madrich added 12 and 11 rebounds, Chuck Eidson had 11 points while Claude Marquis and Afik Nissim each had 10 in an easy home win for Strasbourg. Marquis added 10 boards for another double-double. In other games, Gravelines thrashed Bourg 83-62, Cholet beat Roanne 90-87 in overtime, Chalon topped Hyeres-Toulon 92-78, Le Havre defeated Orleans 89-79 while Dijon bested Paris 90-72. The game between Clermont and Adecco Asvel was postponed until January 3.
