Russian League, Game 10: December 9-10, 2006
CSKA took the Moscow showdown in the Russian League by downing Dynamo 75-56 at home on Sunday. CSKA improved to 8-1 and is second in the standings while Dynamo is now third at 7-2. Theodoros Papaloukas led the winners with 14 points, Matjaz Smodis and David Andersen added 12 while David Vanterpool had 10 for CSKA. Travis Hansen had 12 points to lead Dynamo. Both teams were tied at 13-13 after 10 minutes, but Andersen and Nikita Kourbanov stroke from downtown in a 12-2 run which gave CSKA its first double-digit lead, 25-15. Dynamo struggled against the hosts' excellent defense, while Smodis and a final triple by Papaloukas made it an 18-point game, 40-22, at halftime. Nothing changed since that moment, as CSKA kept a safe lead all the way until the final buzzer. Unics Kazan stayed undefeated with a league-best 8-0 record by downing Ural Great 74-92 in Perm on Saturday. Jarod Stevenson led the winners with 24 points. Saulius Stombergas added 19, Yahor Meshcharakou had 17 and Darjus Lavrinovic 14 in an easy won for Unics, which led 37-50 at halftime and soom boosted its lead to 54-82 to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer. Khimki went up to 6-3 by overwhelming CSK VVS-Samara 99-50 at home. Maciej Lampe led the way with 15 points, Melvin Booker and Vladimir Veremeenko each added 13, Kelly McCarty had 11 and Vitaliy Fridzon 10 in an easy win for Khimki, which led 49-37 at halftime and only allowed 2 points in the entire third quarter to boost its margin to 71-39 after 30 minutes. In other games, Lokomotiv-Rostov beat SibirTelekom 100-72 behind 20 points from Kresimir Loncar.
