French League, Game 15: December 16-17, 2006
Sluc Nancy now leads the French League standings with a 12-3 record by downing Besancon 86-96 on the road on Saturday. Cyril Julian led the winners with 20 points, Branko Milisavljevic added 18, Tariq Kirksay had 13, Dan McClintock 11 while Cedrick Banks and DeRon Hayes each tallied 10 points for Nancy, which led 32-46 at halftime. Julian and Banks helped Nancy to extend its margin to 53-72 and never look back. Nancy became the exclusive leader when Roanne edge Elan Chalon 85-83 with a game-winning basket by Marc-Antoine Pellin. Strasbourg improved to 8-7 by downing Adecco Asvel 80-91 in Lyon on Saturday. Afik Nissin paced Strasbourg with 22 points, Chuck Eidson added 20 and Michael Smith 13 for the winners. Strasbourg opened the game with a 4-18 run which Nissim capped with a layup and soon got a 10-27 margin after 10 minutes. The guests kept a double-digit margin all the way and boosted their lead to 47-71 early in the final period, enough to seal a tough road win in style. Le Mans went also up to 8-7 by topping Bourg 61-74 on the road. Pape Philippe Amagou led the way with 15 points, Eric Campbell had 13 while Tyson Wheeler and Nebojsa Bogavac each added 11 for Le Mans. A 0-9 run which Amagou stroke twice from downtown allowed Le Mans to break the game after the break and cruise to a big win. Pau-Orthez dropped to 6-9 due to a 72-78 home loss against Dijon. T.J. Lux led the winners with 21 points against his former team. Michael Wright had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Pau while C.C. Harrison added 17 points for the hosts, who rallied to get a 72-70 edge with 2 minutes to go. A final 0-8 run allowed Dijon to escape with a win. In other games, Le Havre edged Hyeres-Toulon 77-80, Cholet thrashed Paris 56-71, Orleans edged Clermont 67-61 while Gravelines topped Reims 68-88.
