Russian League, Game 11: December 11-17, 2006
Unics stays as the only team undefeated in the Russian League with a 10-0 record by edging Spartak Vgues 83-78 in Kazan on Sunday. Darjus Lavrinovic led the winners with a double-double of 24 points and 15 rebounds. Yahor Meshcharakou added 18 points while Saulius Stombergas had 15 for Unics. Willie Deane had 27 points for Spartak, which got within 67-66 with 4 minutes to go. Lavrinovic and Stombergas stepped up with crunch time, as Unics entered the final minute with a 80-73 lead and added another win. Unics had thrashed Dynamo Moscow Region 87-59 at home on Thursday. Ksystof Lavrinovic led the way with 21 points, Meshcharakou added 18 while Darjus Lavrinovic had 10 for Unics, which already led 72-40 after three quarters to get a massive home win. CSKA stays second at 9-1 by thrashing Standart 61-105 on the road. Aleksey Savrasenko led 6 CSKA players in double digits with 16 points on 8 of 8 two-pointers. Anatoliy Kashirov added 15 points, Anton Ponkrashov and Nikita Kourbanov each had 12, Zakhar Pashutin 11 and Theodoros Papaloukas 10 in an easy road win for CSKA, which led 30-54 at halftime and never looked back. Khimki improved to 7-3 by downing Spartak St.Petersburg 84-78 on Friday. Vladimir Veremeenko led the winners with 21 points, Oscar Torres had 18, Melvin Booker added 15, Ademola Okulaja 14 and Ruben Wolkowyski 10 for Khimki, which led 72-56 with 8 minutes to go and soon sealed a big win. Dynamo Moscow improved to 8-2 by thrashing Ural Great 93-73 at home on Sunday. Boban Popovic had 13 points for Dynamo, Dmitry Khvostov, Antonios Fotsis and Lazaros Papadopoulos each added 11 while Yuri Vasilyev tallied 10 for Dynamo, which led 49-39 and extended its margin at the end of each other to add an easy win. In other games, Spartak Vgues overwhelmed University Surgut 90-53 on Monday, Spartak St.Petersburg topped Standart 87-64 on Tuesday while Surgut thrashed Sibirtelekom 70-97 on Thursday.
