Polish League, Game 11: December 16-17, 2006
There were no changes at the top of the Polish-League table this weekend as the top three teams won, keeping Prokom Trefl Spopt one game back of co-leaders Turow Zgorzelec and Bergson Slask Wrocław. Turow and Slask each won on the road, respectively beating Znicz Jaroslaw 74-82 and Kotwica Kolobrzeg 67-84 to improve to 9-2, while Prokom scored an 87-79 over Energa Czarni Slupsk. Anwil Wloclawek bounced out of a slump with a 73-95 decision at Unia Tarnow as league-leading scorer Andrzej Pluta poured in 29 points. Stal Ostrow’s three game winning streak was snapped at home by Kager Gdynia, 68-78, behind Aaron Pettway’s 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Courtney Eldridge added 13 points and 9 assists. Michael Ansley scored 16 for Stal. Polpak Swiecie lost for the fifth time in six tries against Polpharma Starogard Gdanski 56-61 despite leading by 8 before the last quarter. Polpharma’s Greg Harrington controlled the game down the stretch and finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, while Patrick Okafor led winners 16 points and 10 rebounds. Haris Nana had 15 and 8 for Polpak. AZS Koszalin won for the first time on the road this season, beating Polonia at Warsaw 68-76 behind Chris Hunter’s double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Grady Reynolds had 21 and 12 for Polonia.
Prokom Trefl built a double-digit advantage in the first quarter, but Czarni came back in the second. The hosts responded with a 12-4 run to close the half and controlled the game after the break despite having their only point guard, Rashid Atkins, foul out with less than three minutes remaining. The club's other point guards, Justin Hamilton and Tomas Pacesas, did not dress due to injuries. Christian Dalmau led winners with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists, but wasn't able to perform down the stretch because of injury. Donatas Slanina added 16, Jeff Nordgaard 14 – including four triples – and Adam Wojcik 13. Huseyin Besok had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Czarni's Miah Davis led all scorers with 23. Robert Witka scored a season-high 32 points and netted 5-of-6 triples lead Turow to an away victory over Znicz. Former Turow player Alvin Cruz had a double-double of 10 points and 10 assists in his debut for Znicz. Slask trailed at the half at Kotwica Kolobrzeg, but took control for good in the third quarter. Branislaw Jancikin had season-high 19 points for Slask, while Dean Oliver finished with 17 points and 7 assists. Tomasz Mrozek scored 18 for Kotwica. League-leading scorer scorer Pluta had 29 to help Anwil better Unia Tarnow away 73-95. Mark Dickel added 20 points and 9 assists, while Gatis Jahivics finished with 13 points. Sani Ibrahim led Unia with 21.
