Turkish League, Game 13: December 29-30, 2006
Kerem Gonlum - Efes Pilsen Fenerbahce Ulker held off the challenge from Alpella on Friday to remain tied for first place with Turk Telekom atop the Turkish League after 13 games. The top four teams in the standings were all victorious in their last games of 2006, ensuring that there would be no major changes in the standings. Ibrahim Kutluay scored 13 to lead Fener to a 70-65 win. Efes Pilsen remained one win out of first after beating Banvit 75-66 behind Kerem Gonlum's double-double. Aubrey Reese led Besiktas Cola Turka to an 83-68 win over Beykoz. Reese posted 25 points and 7 assists to help Besiktas climb to 10-3. Turk Telekom cruised past Tekel 69-91 thanks to Jan Hendrik Lugo Jagla, who scored 23, and Tutku Acik, who dished a dozen assists. In other games, Erdem Turetken scored 16 as Darussafaka outlasted Galatasaray Cafe Crown 73-74, Mersin Buyuksehir Bld. dropped Casa TED Ankara Kolejliler 89-65 through Jared Homan's 32 points and 11 rebounds, Tofas edged Mutlu Aku Selcuk Universitesi 67-64 thanks to Rasheed Brokenborough's 20 points and Pinar Karsiyaka scored an 84-78 home win over Oyak Renault.

Fenerbahce needed a well-balanced team-effort to get past Alpella and improve to 12-1. Six players scored at least 9 points, but the key was defense, as Alpella was held to just 7 fourth-quarter points after posting 24 in the third. Kutluay scored 13 to lead Fener, while Ira Joe Clark had a big game with 12 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks. Damir Mrsic also scored 12, Omer Onan 11 and Kaspers Kambala and Willie Solomon had 9 each. Curtis Withers paced Alpella with a game-high 21. Efes Pilsen trailed 39-42 at halftime against Banvit, buy bounced back in the second half, holding its opponent to 13 and 11 points in the last two periods to score a 75-66 victory. Mustafa Abi led the home team with 17 points, Horace Jenkins added 16 and Gonlum finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Marque Perry and Bekir Yarangume finished with 16 apiece for Banvit. Besiktas led 41-37 at halftime, but outscored Beykoz 26-10 in the third quarter to ensure the outcome. Reese posted 25 points and 7 assists for Besiktas, Jamel Thomas added 17 and Brooks Sales 15. Philip Gross paced Beykoz with 19.
