French League, Game 16: January 6-7, 2007
Le Mans took the big showdown in the French League this weekend by downing Nancy 73-61 at home on Saturday. Nancy ties with Roanne and Chalon for the tops pot at 12-4, while Le Mans joined a five-way tie for the fourth place at 9-7. Kenny Gregory led the winners with 21 points, Pape Philippe Amagou added 13 and Eric Campbell 10 for Le Mans. Tariq Kirksay posted a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds for Nancy, which trailed 38-36 right after the break. Gregory and Branko Milisavljevic sparked a 8-0 run which put Le Mans ahead for good, as free throws by Amagou made it a 17-point game, 67-50, with 6 minutes to go, enough to seal the outcome. Pau-Orthez improved to 7-9 by topping Cholet 56-70 on the road also on Saturday. Michael Wright had 21 points for Pau while C.C. Harrison added 20. Pau trailed 50-49 early in the final period, but Harrison broke the game with 3 quick triples which allowed Pau to win the game. Strasbourg needed overtime to beat Orleans 106-95 at home and improve to 9-7. Michael Smith had 28 points for Strasbourg, Claude Marquis added 23, Chuck Eidson 16 and Sacha Giffa 14. Jermaine Boyette had 31 points on 11-of-12 two-pointers for Orleans. Free throws by Eidson sent the game to overtime, 91-91, while a final 11-0 run allowed Strasbourg to seal the outcome. In other games, Bourg edged Reims 68-66, Chalon topped Paris 81-78, Clermont thrashed Hyeres-Toulon 77-60, Roanne beat Le Havre 69-72, Besancon defeated Dijon 82-87 while Adecco Asvel downed Gravelines 77-78.
