German League, Game 16: January 6-7, 2007
Julius Jenkins - Alba Berlin Alba Berlin stayed atop the German League standings and improved to 13-2 by edging TBB Trier 76-84 on the road in front of 6,200 fans on Saturday. Julius Jenkins led the winners with 24 points, Nicolai Simon and Johannes Herber each had 11 while Ruben Boumtje Boumtje added 10 for Alba, which trailed 54-49 early in the third quarter. It didn't last long, however, as Jenkins and Herber fueled a game-breaking 2-18 run which gave the guests a double-digit margin, 56-67, after 30 minutes. Trier got within 71-75, but Chris Owens and Jenkins allowed Alba to seal the win. RheinEnergie improved to 12-3 by edging the Giessen 46ers 60-57 in Cologne on Sunday. Immanuel McElroy led the winners with 16 points while Guido Grunheid posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds for RheinEnergie, which trailed 10-19 after 10 minutes. McElroy and Grunheid took over after the break to give the hosts a 47-43 at the end of the third quarter. McElroy got some help from Demond Mallet to make RheinEnergie seal the win down the stretch. In other games, Ratiopharm Ulm thrashed the Artland Dragons 97-78, Bayer Giants Leverkusen downed Sellbytel Baskets Nurnberg 73-88, the Deutsche Bank Skyliners needed double overtime to edge Walter Tigers Tubingen while EWE Baskets Oldenburg beat Eisbaren Bremerhaven 62-60. Paderborn Baskets welcomes BG Karlsruhe on January 10, EnBW Ludwigsburg hosts New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig on January 17 while Telekom Baskets Bonn visits Brose Baskets on April 18.
