Adriatic League, Game 17: January 13, 2007
Nothing changed atop the Adriatic League standings, as Cibona keeps leading the table with a 14-3 record by downing archrivals Zadar 76-82 on the road. Marton Bader led the way with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting. FMP seclusively holds the second place now by topping Zagreb 68-82 on the road on Saturday. Branko Cvetkovic led the winners with 20 points, as FMP overcame an early deficit to add yet another road triumph. Partizan and Hemofarm share the third place, each with a 12-5 record. Hemofarm thrashed Bosna Asa BHT 103-82 in Vrsac behind 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists from Predrag Suput. Meanwhile, Partizan dropped to 12-5 due to a 70-76 road loss against Helios Domzale. Even when Crvena Zvezda star forward Milan Gurovic buried 9 three-pointers on his way to 39 points, his team registered a 89-88 road loss against Buducnost. Goran Jeretin had the last 4 points of the game and led the winners with 24 points. Union Olimpija dropped to 7-10 due to a 98-97 overtime road loss against Siroki Prima Pivo despite 25 points from Teemu Rannikko, while Geoplin Slovan edged Split 80-79 with a game-winning free throw by Emir Preldzic.
Cibona kept the top spot and improved to 14-3 by downing archrivals Zadar 76-82 on the road. Bader led the way with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Brent Wright added 13 while Andrew Wisniewski and Chris Warren each had 12 for Cibona. A layup by Marin Rozic gave Cibona a 44-45 edge at halftime. Cibona extended its margin to 59-63 after 30 minutes and managed to stay ahead and grab a difficult road win. Hemofarm improved to 12-5 and ties for the third place in the standings by thrashing Bosna Asa BHT 103-82 in Vrsac on Saturday. Suput paced the winners with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Vladan Vukosavljevic added 20, Milos Markovic had 14, Milos Borisov and Aleksej Nesovic each tallied 13 while Vanja Plisnic scored 10 points for Hemofarm, which trailed 23-27 after 10 minutes. Hemofarm managed to regain the lead, 52-41, at halftime and boosted its margin to 69-52 after 30 minutes to seal the win long before the final buzzer. Union Olimpija dropped to 7-10 due to a 98-97 overtime road loss against Siroki Prima Pivo. Ivan Opacak led the winners with 20 points. Rannikko led Olimpija with 25 points, Domen Lorbek added 17, Ender Arslan 16, Ivica Jurkovic 13 and Hasan Rizvic 10. Rannikko beat the buzzer with a wild triple to force overtime, 87-87, and then hit free throws for a 96-97 Olimpija edge already in the final seconds. Darren McLinton drew a foul and calmaly made both free throws to make Siroki win the game.
FMP is now second at 13-4 by downing Zagreb 68-82 on the road on Saturday. Cvetkovic led the winners with 20 points, Dragan Labovic had 19 and Zoran Erceg 13 for FMP, which trailed 23-15 after 10 minutes. FMP rallied and a layup by Cvetkovic gave the guests a 31-32 edge at halftime. Labovic took over after the break and his three-pointer gave FMP a 43-54 after three quarters. Zagreb never rallied and FMP added yet another road win. Crvena Zvezda dropped to 9-8 due to a 89-88 road loss against Buducnost in Podgorica. Former Zvezda star Jeretin led Buducnost with 24 points. Gurovic had 39 points on 9-of-18 three-pointers for Zvezda while Petar Popovic added 12 for the guests, who led 85-88 already in the final minute. Jeretin became the game hero, as he hit free throws and then beat the buzzer with the game-winning layup. Partizan dropped to 12-5 and is now third due to a 70-76 road loss against Helios Domzale. Robert Troha had 19 points for Helios. Vonteego Cummings led Partizan with 17 points, Novica Velickovic added 11 while Kosta Perovic and Dusan Kecman each had 10 for the guests. It all came down to the final seconds, as Cummings singlehandedly brought Partizan within 76-75. Troha hit 3 of 4 free throws to make Helios get a surprising home win.
