French League, Game 17: January 13-14, 2007
Sluc Nancy and Roanne tie atop the French League standings with a 13-4 record at the halfway mark of the regular season. Both teams join Chalon, Strasbourg, Asvel, Orleans, Le Mans and Dijon in the fight to win the Semaine des As in the final eight next month. Nancy did not find much trouble to down Dijon 85-73 at home on Friday. Cyril Julian led the way with 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting, Cedrick Banks added 15, Maxime Zianveni posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds while Tariq Kirksay had 13 points for Nancy, which led 49-36 at halftime and held off a shy fourth-quarter rally to win the game. Roanne also improved to 13-4 by edging Clermont 74-68 behind 24 points from Marc Salyers. Strasbourg improved to 10-7 and clinched a spot in the Semaine des As by thrashing Hyeres-Toulon 66-92 on the road on Saturday. Aerick Sanders led the way with 17 points, Chuck Eidson had 15 while Afik Nissim and Lonnie Cooper each added 14 in an easy road win for Strasbourg. Le Mans also improved to 10-7 by edging Reims 67-69 on the road also on Saturday. Kenny Gregory had 23 points for the winners, Sandro Nicevic added 11 and Eric Campbell 10. Le Mans trailed 62-58 with 5 minutes to go, but a big out-back basket by Gregory and a free throw by Yannick Bokolo allowed Le Mans to get a crucial win. Pau-Orthez improved to 8-9 by thrashing Chalon 96-64 at home on Sunday. C.C. Harrison led the winners with 22 points, Aaron Miles added 18, Britton Johnsen 14 and Ian Mahinmi 10. Harrison had 18 points in the opening half, in which Pau fired in 10 triples to get a 55-32 margin at the break. Pau boosted its lead to 80-47 and never looked back. In other games, Adecco Asvel thrashed Bourg 108-82, Orleans edged Gravelines, Cholet topped Besancon 76-86 while Paris bested Le Havre 78-69.
