Belgian League, Game 19: January 13-14, 2007
Spirou Charleroi keeps leading the Belgian League standings and improved to 15-4 by thrashing Dexia Mons-Hainaut 84-64 in the Spiroudome on Saturday. Greg Grays led the winners with 29 points. George Evans had 21 points for Mons, Yemi Nicholson added 12 and Shawnta Rogers 10. Kris Sergeant and Grays allowed Charleroi to get a 34-23 lead at halftime. Even when a dunk by Nicholson got Mons within 50-44 early in the final period, a final 11-0 run allowed Charleroi to add a massive home win. Telindus Oostende improved to 10-8 by downing Basket Gr Leuven 84-67 at home. Eric Hicks led the way with 26 points, Rashad Wright added 24 and 8 assists while Elvir Ovcina posted a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds for Oostende, which used a 11-0 run that Hicks capped with a layup to break the game, 77-57, in the final period. Euphony Bree had more troubles to edge Sanex Antwerp 83-78 in overtime and improve to 10-9 in the standings. Kelvin Torbert had 23 points for Bree while Ed Norvell led Antwerp also with 23 points, including a big basket which sent the game to overtime, 67-67. Once in the extra period, three-pointers and an outstanding Jeff Horner made the difference for Bree. In other games, Verviers-Pepinster beat Liege Basket 89-96 behind 28 points from Justin Gray while Okapi Aalstar edged Atomia Brussels 75-79.
