Russian League, Game 14: January 12-14, 2007
CSKA Moscow and Unics Kazan keep tying atop the Russian League standings, each with a 11-1 record. CSKA found no further trouble to down CSK VVS-Samara 66-97 on the road on Saturday. Matjaz Smodis led the winners with 16 points on 4-of-4 three-pointers. Zakhar Pashutin added 11 while Theodoros Papaloukas and Aleksey Savrasenko each had 10 for CSKA, who rested David Vanterpool and Trajan Langdon in this easy road win. CSKA led 37-57 at halftime and never looked back. Meanwhile, Unics improved to 11-1 by overwhelming Sibirtelekom 90-63 in Kazan on Friday. Darjus Lavrinovic led the winners with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. Sergei Chikalkin added 16 while Yahor Meshcharakou had 13 for Unics, which led 45-32 at halftime and increased its margin at the end of each period. Khimki improved to 8-4 by thrashing Standart 116-83 at home. Ruben Wolkowiski paced the winners with 20 points. Gianmarco Pozzecco added 17 and 12 assists, Boris Gorenc and Maciej Lampe each had 13 while Vitaliy Fridzon tallied 12 in an easy home win for Khimki, which led 60-40 at halftime and never looked back. In other games, Spartak Vgues topped Standart 66-79 on the road on Wednesday but then lost against Lokomotiv Rostov 104-63 on the road on Saturday. Finally, Dynamo Moscow Region defeated Sibirtelekom 83-54 on Sunday.
