German League, Game 17: January 13-14, 2007
Will Avery - Alba Berlin Alba Berlin stays unstoppable in the German League and leads the standings with a 14-2 record by thrashing New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig 92-74 in Berlin on Saturday. Will Avery paced the winners with 17 points, Julius Jenkins added 14, Sharrod Ford had 13 and Chris Owens 12 for Alba. Avery shined in the first quarter to make Alba get a 30-18 lead. Braunschweig managed to get within 69-63 early in the final period, but never got closer. RheinEnergie dropped to 12-4 and is third in the league table due to a 74-52 road loss against Eisbaren Bremenhaven. Adam Chubb led the winners with 24 points and 14 boards. Demond Mallet had 16 points for RheinEnergie while Devin Green added 13. Bremerhaven led 35-25 at halftime and boosted its margin to 47-27 to seal the win long before the final buzzer. Brose Baskets dropped to 6-5 due to a 71-62 road loss against Bayer Giants Leverkusen. Robert Garrett had 21 points for Brose Baskets, Darren Fenn added 14 and Steffen Hamann 10 for the guests, who suspended guard DeJuan Collins indefenitely doe disciplinary reasons. Bayer Giants Leverkusen led 50-27 after three quarters, enough to seal the outcome. In other games, the Deutsche Bank Skyliners beat TBB Trier 68-79, Sellbytel Baskets Nurnberg bested BG Karlsruhe 66-74, EnBW Ludwigsburg edged Telekom Baskets Bonn 90-93 in overtime, the Artland Dragons defeated EWE Baskets Oldenburg 72-65, Paderborn Baskets downed the Giessen46ers 70-80 while Ratiopharm Ulm rallied to beat Walter Tigers Tubingen 65-72.
