French League, Game 18: January 19-21, 2007
Three teams - Chalon, Nancy and Roanne - tie atop the French League standings, each with a 15-3 record. Chalon took the big showdown in the French League this week by edging Nancy 86-84 at home on Friday night. Jermaine Guice led the winners with 20 points. Cedrick Banks had 25 points for Nancy, Branko Milisavljevic added 16, Tariq Kirksay 11 and Victor samnick 10. Nancy led most of the way in the second half and free throws by Milisavljevic gave the guests a 72-80 edge with 3 minutes to go. Guice brought Chalon back to life and even when once again Milisavljevic gave Nancy a 81-84 edge, free throws by Terrell Everett and a huge three-pointer by Philippe Braud allowed the hosts to win the game. Le Mans improved to 11-7 by thrashing Adecco Asvel 92-74 at home on Sunday. Kenny Gregory paced the winners with 17 points, Yannick Bokolo and Eric Campbell each added 12 while Alain Koffi had 11 for Le Mans, which got a 49-32 halftime margin and had no troubles to add an easier than expected win. Pau-Orthez moved up to 9-9 by downing Clermont 57-67 at home behind 14 points each from C.C. Harrison and Britton Johnsen. A 1-16 run after the berak that Harrison capped with a triple put Pau in charge for good. Strasbourg improved to 11-7 by overwhelming Paris 83-63 at home on Sunday. Michael Smith had 20 points while Chuck Eidson and Aerick Sanders each added 15 and in an easy home win for Strasbourg, which already led 68-39 after three periods. In other games, Reims edged Orleans 69-68. Hyeres-Toulon topped Bourg 73-77, Le Havre downed Besancon 107-94, Gravelines bested Roanne 83-66 while Cholet beat Dijon 64-53.
