Belgian League, Game 20: January 20, 2007
Kevin Houston Dexia Mons-Hainaut Euphony Bree took the big showdown in the Belgian League this season by edging Spirou Charleroi 95-96 in overtime in the Spiroudome on Saturday. Bree improved to 11-9 while Charleroi dropped to 15-5. Jim Cantamessa led the winners with 26 points on 5-of-7 three-pointers. Kelvin Tolbert added 19 while Reggie Bassette had 14 for Bree. Ralph Biggs had 19 points for Charleroi while Greg Grays added 18, including the free throws which sent the game to overtime, 83-83. Bree led throughout the extra period but Corey Brewer followed a big triple with a layup for a 95-94 lead. Tolbert hit the game-winning free throws for Bree. Meanwhile, Dexia Mons-Hainaut dropped to 10-9 due to a 74-70 road loss against Verviers-Pepinster. Christophe Beghin had 20 points for Bree. Kevin Houston led Mons with 18 points, George Evans had 15 and Bingo Merriex 13. Mons got its last lead at 65-66, but a 9-2 run sealed the outcome down the stretch. Telindus Oostende moved down to 10-10 due to a 84-78 road loss against Sanex Antwerp. Ed Norvell led the winners with 19 points while Len Matela added 18. Eric Hicks had 20 points for Oostende, Titus Ivory added 15 while Sam Van Rossom and Elvir Ovcina each added 13 for the guests, which trailed all the way in the final period. In the final game in this round, Okapi Aalstar topped Liege Basket 88-80 behind 21 points each from Trevor Huffman and Pablo Gonzalez.
