German League, Game 18: January 20-21, 2007
Darren Fenn - Brose Baskets There is a new leader atop the German League standings, none other than EnBW Ludwigsburg, which climbed to the top spot by beating BG Karlsruhe 99-83 behind 25 points from Nate Harris. Previous leader Alba Berlin dropped to 14-3 due to a 69-66 road loss against Telekom Baskets Bonn. Jason Gardner led the winners with 14 points. Julius Jenkins had 26 points on 5-of-6 three-pointers while Chris Owens added 14 for Alba, which trailed 12-8 after 10 minutes and then again 48-42 at the end of the third quarter. Alba used three-pointers to rally and got within 68-66 with just 11 seconds to go. Gardner made 1 of 2 free throws to make Bonn get a big home win. Meanwhile, RheinEnergie improved to 13-4 by edging Walter Tiger Tubingen 75-70 in Cologne on Sunday. Demond Mallet and Immanuel McElroy each had 15 points for the winners, Devin Green added 11 and Aleksandar Nadjfeji 10 for RheinEnergie, which only used 7 players in this game and trailed 39-44 at halftime. A 18-7 run in the third quarter proved to be decisive, allowing RheinEnergie to get a well-deserved win. Brose Baskets improved to 7-6 by downing the Giessen 46ers 75-61 in Bamberg on Saturday. Darren Fenn paced the winners with 27 points, Robert Garrett added 20 and Chris Ensminger 10 in an easy home win for Brose Baskets, which led 48-25 at halftime and did not find much trouble to add another win. In other games, Ratopharm Ulm beat the Deutsche Bank Skyliners 81-77 in overtime, Paderborn Baskets topped the Artland Dragons 77-52, EWE Baskets Oldenburg thrashed TBB Trier 99-61 while Eisbaren Bremerhaven overwhelmed sellbytel Baskets Nurnberg 59-109.
