Adriatic League, Game 19: January 27, 2007
Another week, another win for Cibona, which keeps leading the Adriatic League with a 25-4 record. Cibona held off a fourth-quarter really to beat Bosna Asa BHT 96-91 in Zagreb on Saturday behind 24 points on 10 of 10 free throws from Davor Kus. Partizan, FMP and Hemofarm keep tying for the second spot in the standings, each with a 14-5 record. Partizan did not find much trouble to down Split 111-81 behind 18 points from Luka Bogdanovic. Hemofarm survived a tough test by edging Union Olimpija 78-76 in Vrsac. Predrag Suput paced the winners with 25 points, including 4 late free throws which made Hemofarm win the game. Temmu Rannikko had 37 points on 9-of-13 three-pointers for Olimpija. FMP rallied in the final period to edge Buducnost 91-95 in Podgorica on Saturday. Ivan Todorovic, Milos Teodosic and Branko Cvetkovic each had 14 points for FMP. Despite playing without star forward Milan Gurovic, Crvena Zvezda beat Siroki 76-85 on the road with 22 points from Tadija Dragicevic. In other games, Helios Domzale upset Zadar 83-85 while Zagreb beat Geoplin Slovan 78-90 with 24 points from Gordan Zadravec.
Cibona had to battle hard to beat Bosna Asa BHT 96-91 in Zagreb on Saturday and improve to 15-4 in the standings. Kus led the winners with 24 points, Andrew Wisniewski and Brent Wright each added 13, Marton Bader had 11 and Chris Warren 10 for Cibona. Clarence Gilbert and Dzenan Rahimic each had 23 points for Bosna, which led 35-37 at halftime. Cibona went wild after the break, as Kus and Wright shined to make the hosts get a 78-55 margin after three quarters. Bosna was not done, however, and got within 84-89 already in the final minute, but the guests could not complete their big comeback. Crvena Zvezda moved up to 11-8 by beating Siroki 76-85 on the road on Saturday. Dragicevic led Zvezda with 22 points, Pero Antic had 17 and Vuk Radivojevic 11 for the winners, who travelled to Bosnia and Herzegovina without Gurovic. Siroki led 63-59 after 30 minutes but Antic and Dragicevic fueled a 2-11 run which gave Zvezda a 65-70 edge. Another 0-10 run allowed the guests to seal the win down the stretch. Partizan improved to 14-5 by thrashing Split 111-81 in Belgrade on Saturday. Bogdanovic led the way with 18 points, Uros Tripkovic had 15, Predrag Drobnjak added 13, Dejan Borovnjak 11 and Dusan Kecman 10 in an easy home win for Partizan, which led 57-40 at halftime and never looked back.
FMP survived a tough test by edging Buducnost 91-95 in Podgorica on Saturday. Todorovic, Teodosic and Cvetkovic each had 14 points for FMP, Zoran Erceg added 11 and Aleksandar Rasic 10. FMP trailed 71-63 after three quarters but rallied in the final period to get a 78-80 edge on a three-pointer by Teodosic. Free throws by Rasic, Cvetkovic and Djordje Micic allowed FMP to add a difficult road win. Hemofarm keeps tying for the second place at 14-5 by edging Union Olimpija 78-76 in Vrsac on Saturday. Suput led the winners with 25 points on 4-of-4 three-pointers. Milenko Topic had 11 points and Vanja Plisnic 10 for Hemofarm. Rannikko had 37 points on 9-of-13 three-pointers for Olimpija. Domen Lorbek added 15 and Manu Markoishvili 11. Rannikko had 22 points, including 5 triples, in the second quarter alone to make Olimpija get a 45-46 edge. Even when Hemofarm led 72-62 with 5 minutes to go, Rannikko and Lorbek fueled a 2-14 run which gave Olimpija a 74-76 edge. Suput stepped up with 4 free throws in the final minute, while Rannikko and Ivica Jurkovic missed for Olimpija in the game's final possession.
