French League, Game 19: January 27-28, 2007
Three teams - Nancy, Chalon and Roanne - keeps tying atop the French League standings, each with a 14-5 record. Elan Bearnais Pau-Orthez took the big showdown in the French League this weekend by edging Strasbourg 89-85 in overtime on Sunday afternoon. Pau improved to 10-9 while Strasbourg dropped to 11-8. C.C. Harrison led the winners with 18 points, Ricardo Greer added 16 while Aaron Miles and Michael Wright each had 13 for Pau. Claude Marquis had 20 points for Strasbourg while Michael Smith and Aerick Sanders each added 10. The game saw as many as 10 lead changes in the second half before Marquis tied it at 79-79. Miles buried a jumper but a put-back basket by Marquis sent the game to overtime, 81-81. Once again Marquis gave Strasbourg its last lead, 83-85. Miles, Greer and Xane D'Almeida fueled a 6-0 run which helped Pau to win the game. Nancy had less troubles to down Le Havre 96-75 at home. Cyril Julian led Nancy with 29 points on 12-of-16 two-pointers and 11 rebounds. Branko Milisavljevic added 16 points while Maxime Zianveni and Tariq Kirksay each had 15 for the winners. Zianveni grabbed 10 rebounds for another double-double. Nancy trailed 39-42 but Julian had 21 points in the second half to make the hosts seal the win long before the final buzzer. Le Mans dropped to 11-8 due to a 63-57 road loss against Cholet. Eric Campbell led Le Mans with 14 points and 15 rebounds while Kenny Gregory had 11 for the guests, who got within 53-52 with 5 minutes to go and could not complete their comeback. In other games, Orleans edged Adecco Asvel 66-63, Roanne beat Bourg 87-76, Reims topped Hyeres-Toulon 77-83, Clermont downed Besancon 70-77, Chalon bested Dijon 77-84 while Gravelines thrashed Paris 64-97.
