Portuguese League, Game 19: January 27-28, 2007
Another week, another Portuguese League win for Ovarense Aerosoles, that improved to 15-2 and stayed atop the standings by thrashing end-of-the-table Barreirense 67-85 on the road on Saturday. Gregory Stempin paced the winners with 21 points while Ben Reed added 13 for Ovarense, which led 27-39 at halftime and did not find much trouble to add an easier than expected home win. Benfica stayed second with a 13-4 record by beating Casino Figueira Ginasio 78-69 at home. Carlos Andrade had 17 points for Benfica while Ashante Johnson added 16 and 15 rebounds for the hosts. Ricky Woods led 5 Ginasio players in double digits with 13 points. Benfica led 67-66 with 3 minutes to go, but Leroy Watkins and Andrade shined in crunch time to make Benfica win the game. Lusitania Angra PM improved to 11-6 by edging Belenenses Hyundai Lusifor 87-82 at home. Jaime Silva led the way for Lusitania with 21 points while Graham Brown posted a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Paulo Simao had 18 points for Belenenses. Finally, CAB Madeira edged Queluz Sintra PM 81-79 on Sunday.
