German League, Game 19: February 3-4, 1007
Alba Berlin stayed atop the German League standings with a 16-3 record by downing Ratiopharm Ulm 73-64 at home on Sunday in come-from-behind fashion. Chris Owens led the winners with 16 points, Johannes Herber added 13 and Julius Jenkins 11. Bryan Lucas had 17 points for Ulm, which led 37-38 at halftime and boosted its margin to 47-57 after three quarters. Alba only allowed 7 points in the final period, while Herber and an outstanding Owens helped Alba to rally and seal the outcome minutes before the final buzzer. RheinEnergie improved to 14-4 and is third in the league board by edging TBB Trier 78-84 on the road also on Sunday. Aleksandar Nadjfeji led RheinEnergie with 18 points. Demond Mallet had 17, Marcin Gortat added 15, Guido Grunheid 12 and a recovered Johannes Strasser 10 for the winners. RheinEnergie led 55-68 after 30 minutes and held off a late Trier rally to win the game. Brose Baskets improved to 9-6 and showed its power by downing Eisbaren Bremenhaven 77-90 on the road. Casey Jacobsen led the winners with 23 points, Darren fenn added 16, Robert Garrett had 14, Chris Ensminger 12 and Tim Begley 10. In other games, New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig bested BG Karlsruhe 70-82, Walter Tigers topped Paderborn Baskets 76-64, Artland Dragons overwhelmed Nurnberg 101-76, Giessen 46ers edged EnBW Ludwigsburg 76-71 in overtime, the Deutsche Bank Skyliners beat EWE Baskets Oldenburg 76-70 while Bayer Giants Leverkusen defeated Telekom Baskets Bonn 92-80.
