Portuguese League, Game 21: February 3-4, 2007
Ovarense Aerosoles improved to 16-2 and keeps leading the Portuguese League standings by thrashing Casino Figueira Ginasio 85-54 at home on Saturday. Gregory Stempin led the winners with 21 points and Fernando Neves added 13 for Ovarense, which led 45-23 at halftime and never looked back. Benfica stayed second with a 14-4 record by topping Queluz Sintra PM 71-64 at home also on Saturday. Ashante Johnson paced the winners with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Ian Stanback added 14 while former Queluz center Leroy Watkins grabbed 12 boards for Benfica. Earl Brown had 16 points for Queluz, which led 57-59 with 5 minutes to go. Stanback and Johnson fueled a 12-2 run that sealed the win. Porto Ferpinta did not find much trouble to thrash Lusitania Angra PM 60-81 on the road. Nuno Marcal led the way for Porto with 24 points while Rodrigo Mascarenhas posted a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Last but not least, Barreirense edged Belenenses Montepio SR 91-88 in overtime on Sunday. Cody Toppert had 27 points for Barreirense, including the go-ahead basket with 8 seconds to go in overtime. Jason Robinson led 5 Belenenses players in double digits with 21 points.
