Joventut had a better intensity on defense, while a triple by Fernandez gave his team a 14-6 lead. Basile and Navarro fueled a 0-6 run to wake Barcelona up, but Andy Betts and an unstoppable Fernandez helped Joventut to a 19-16 edge after 10 minutes. Joventut opted to kept looking for Betts in the middle, but Barcelona was a different team on defense now. Free throws by Fran Vazquez and a bomb from downtown by Navarro tied it at 27-27, and then Lakovic had 5 points in a 0-7 run that gave Barcelona a 29-34 lead. Paco Vazquez and Fernandez rescued Joventut, which reached halftime with a 38-36 lead.
