Belgian League, Game 23: February 10-11, 2007
Atomia Brussels provided the biggest surprise in the Belgian League this weekend by downing Spirou Charleroi 84-77 at home on Sunday. Atomia improved to 7-16 while Charleroi dropped to 16-7 but kept the first place in the standings. Michael Campbell had 14 points for Atomia, which led 57-38 after three quarters. Greg Grays had 19 to lead Charleroi. Meanwhile, Sanex Antwerp Giants remained second at 15-7 by beating Basket Gr Leuven 75-58 at home on Saturday. Len Matela and David Toya each had 18 points for the winners, who led 44-29 at halftime and kept a safe margin until the final buzzer. Dexia Mons-Hainaut improved to 13-10 and tied for the third place in the standings by edging Liege Basket 90-87 at home on Saturday. George Evans led the winners with 26 points on 12-of-13 two-pointers. Johnny Taylor added 18 while Kevin Houstin had 16 for Mons. Karim Souchu had 25 points for Liege while Morris Finley added 22. Telindus Oostende had less troubles than expected to thrash Euphony Bree 91-71 at home and also improve to 13-10 in the standings. Rashad Wright had 23 points for Oostende, Veselin Petrovic added 20 and Elvir Ovcina 13 for the winners. Brian Lynch had 20 points for Bree, that trailed 53-29 at halftime and never recovered. Last but not least, Verviers-Pepinster beat Okapi Aalstar 90-83 behind 23 points from Thomas Gardner.
