Kaspars Cipruss - BC Ventspils Ventspils recorded its second win in the Baltic League Division I by topping ASK Riga 83-68 on Saturday. The result saw the Latvian champs leapfrog Riga in the standings, sending the losing team to last place with a 1-4 record. Sandis Valters, who scored 17 points in the first half, boosted the guests with a 15-5 run for an early 10-20 cushion, but the hosts climbed within 28-29 at the end of the first quarter. Pushed under the boards by Raitis Grafs and Kaspars Cipruss, Ventspils led at halftime 47-43 and never looked back, maintaining a safe margin until the final buzzer. Eddie Shannon led the way with 18 points, Aigars Vitols drilled 15, Uvis Helmanis drained 14 and Dusan Jelic chipped in 10. Valters tallied 22 for ASK Riga. In Division II action earlier in the week, Travis Reed scored 34 to lead Kalev/Cramo over Panevezys 100-84, while Lacplesa Alus went on the road to beat Sakalai 60-70.
