Adriatic League, Game 21: February 17-18, 2007
With just five games to go in the Adriatic League regular season. Cibona keeps leading the standings with a 17-4 record and gets closer to clinch a playoff spot by downing Helios Domzale 85-75 in Zagreb on Saturday. Chris Warren led the winners with 28 points on 5-of-8 three-pointers and Andrew Wisniewski added 18, but both players combined for 11 points in a 13-0 run that sealed the win in the final 5 minutes. Partizan and FMP stay second at 16-5. Partizan beat Zagreb 90-73 behind 28 points from Uros Tripkovic, while FMP edged Siroki Prima Pivo 76-82 on the road on Saturday. Branko Cvetkovic had 14 points for FMP. In a big game on Sunday, Hemofarm was the last team standing on its feet by edging Crvena Zvezda 95-90 in a big showdown. Predrag Suput had 30 points to lead Hemofarm while scoring machine Milan Gurovic had as many as 37 for Zvezda. Union Olimpija improved to 10-11 and ties for the eighth place in the standings by overwhelming Bosna Asa BHT 93-68 in Ljubljana on Saturday behind 16 points each from Goran Jurak and Teemu Rannikko. In other games, Zadar topped Split 102-91 while Buducnost bested Geoplin Slovan 84-74.
Cibona had to battle hard to improve to 17-4 and stay atop the standings by downing Helios Domzale 85-75 in Zagreb on Saturday. Warren led the winners with 28 points on 5-of-8 three-pointers. Wisniewski added 18 while Brent Wright had 15 for Cibona, that trailed 72-75 with 5 minutes to go. Cibona capped the game with a 13-0 run in that Warren and Wisniewski combined for 11 points to make their team add another win. Partizan had ledd troubles to beat Zagreb 90-73 and improve to 16-5 in the league board. Tripkovic shined with 28 points on 6-of-9 three-pointers. Dusan Kecman had 16 while Predrag Drobnjak added 11 for Partizan, that led 61-55 after 30 minutes. Kecman had 12 points in the final period to make Partizan cruise to a well-deserved win. Union Olimpija improved to 10-11 and ties for the eighth place in the standings by overwhelming Bosna Asa BHT 93-68 in Ljubljana on Saturday. Rannikko and Jurak led the winners each with 16 points. Domen Lorbek and Hasan Rizvic each added 13, Manu Markoishvili tallied 11 while Dejan Hohler and Sandi Cebular had 10 apiece for Olimpija, that led 55-52 late in the third quarter. A 11-0 run gave Olimpija a double-digit lead, while Rannikko and Hohler shined in the final minutes to seal the outcome.
FMP moved up to 16-5 by edging Siroki Prima Pivo 76-82 on the road on Saturday. Cvetkovic had 14 points for FMP. Predrag Samardziski added 12 while Zoran Erceg and Milos Teodosic each tallied 11 for the winners. FMP led 32-37 at halftime and managed to keep a safe edge in the final and decisive minutes. Hemofarm survived a tough battle by edging Crvena Zvezda 95-90 in a all-Serbian showdown in Vrsac on Sunday night. Hemofarm improved to 15-6 while Zvezda dropped to 11-10. Suput led the winners with 30 points on 7-of-9 two-pointers and 3-of-5 triples. Vanja Plisnic added 13 while Milenko Topic had 10 for Hemofarm. Gurovic had 37 points on 7-of-9 two-pointer and 11-of-13 free throws for Zvezda. Tadija Dragicevic added 12 while Pero Antic and Igor Milosevic each chipped in 11 for the guests. Gurovic had 12 points in the opening period to make Zvezda keep a 18-21 edge after 10 minutes. Plisnic and Aleksej Nesovic shined in the second quarter, but Hemofarm only got a 42-41 edge at halftime. The game saw as many as 9 lead changes in the third quarter, as Antonio Burks scored off a steal for a 69-70 Zvezda edge after 30 minutes. Free throws by Gurovic tied it again, 85-85, with 2 minutes to go. Topic and Miljan Rakic fueled a 6-0 Hemofarm run for a 91-85 lead, while Suput and Milos Borisov sealed the hosts' win from the free throw line.
