Jaka Lakovic - Winterthur FCB Another weekend, another Spanish League win for Real Madrid, that now has a two-game advantage over everyone else by edging Lagun Aro Bilbao Basket 79-75 at home on Saturday. Felipe Reyes led the winners with 14 points, as Madrid held off a big Bilbao Basket rally to stay undefeated in Palacio Vistalegre this season. Tau Ceramica dropped to 17-5 but stayed second in the standings due to an 83-81 road loss against CB Granada. Nico Gianella had 21 points for the winners while Luis Scola had 31 for Tau. Winterthur FC Barcelona showed its power by downing third-ranked Akasvayu Girona 64-72 on the road on Sunday. Juan Carlos Navarro paced the winners with 20 points but Jaka Lakovic had 7 of his 18 points in a game-breaking 0-13 run that sealed the win down the stretch. Unicaja topped Gran Canaria 67-65 in Malaga on Sunday behind 12 points from Jiri Welsch while DKV Joventut dropped 13-9 due to a 64-73 home loss against Pamesa Valencia on Sunday. In other games, ViveMenorca beat Etosa Alicante 79-85, Bruesa GBC edged Grupo Capitol Valladolid 75-71, MMT Estudiantes bested Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada 67-69 while Polaris World CB Murcia topped Caja San Fernando 89-81.

Real Madrid keeps leading the Spanish League standings with a 19-3 record by edging Lagun Aro Bilbao Basket 79-75 at home on Saturday. Reyes led the winners with 14 points, Louis Bullock and Charles Smith each added 11 while Axel Hervelle had 10 for Madrid. Andy Panko had 24 points for Bilbao Basket. Madrid led almost all the way and a three-pointer by Bullock gave the hosts a 74-60 lead with 4 minutes to go. A wild comeback got Bilbao Basket within 77-75 but Raul Lopez hit the game-winning free throws with 5 seconds remaining. Winterthur FCB ties for the fourth place at 13-9 by beating Akasvayu Girona 64-72 on the road on Sunday. Navarro paced the winners with 20 points, Lakovic added 18 while Denis Marconato had 10 for Barcelona. Bootsy Thornton had 23 points for Girona, that led 64-61 with 4 minutes to go. Barcelona did not allow more points down the stretch, while Lakovic had 7 points in a final 0-11 run that made Barcelona win the game. Tau Ceramica dropped to 17-5 due to an 83-81 road loss against CB Granada. Gianella had 21 points for the winners while Curtis Borchardt pulled down 18 boards. Scola had 31 points for Tau, Serkan Erdogan added 19 and Tiago Splitter 10. It all came down to the final minute, as Pablo Prigioni brought Tau within 82-81. Cesar Sanmartin hit a free throw for Granada while Sergi Vidal committed a decisive turnover in the game's final possession.

Unicaja confirmed its excellent moment by topping Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas 67-65 in Malaga on Sunday. Unicaja improved to 13-9 while Gran Canaria dropped to 11-11. Welsch led the way for Unicaja with 12 points, Berni Rodriguez added 11 and Marcus Faison 10 for the winners. Jackson Vroman had 20 points for Gran Canaria while Sergio Perez added 10. Faison shined late in the first quarter to give Unicaja a 19-13 lead after 10 minutes. Vroman and Perez led the Gran Canaria comeback, while a final basket by Jim Moran gave the guests a 35-37 halfime edge. Unicaja broke the game with a 15-0 run that Faison capped with a triple, good for a 59-43 lead. Gran Canaria rallied in the final 6 minutes but it happened to be too little, too late for the guests. DKV Joventut dropped 13-9 due to a 64-73 home loss against Pamesa Valencia on Sunday. Vule Advalovic had 21 points for Pamesa. Elmer Bennett, Ferran Laviña and Charles Gaines each had 11 points for Joventut while Dimitri Flis added 10. Bennett followed free throws with a fast break layup to give Joventut a 55-54 edge after 30 minutes. Pamesa made the hosts go scoreless in the final 4 minutes, using a 2-13 run to break the game open and add a much-needed win.
