Russian League, Game 20: February 21-25, 2007
CSKA is back atop the Russian League standings with a 15-2 record by thrashing Standart 106-66 in Moscow on Saturday. Thomas Van den Spiegel led 7 CSKA players in double digits with 17 points. Anatoliy Kashirov added 16, David Andersen had 15, Theo Papaloukas 14, Oscar Torres 11 while Nikita Kourbanov and Anton Ponkrashov each scored 10 points in an easy home win for CSKA. Khimki showed its power by downing Unics Kazan 113-80 at home on Friday. Khimki improved to 15-4 while Unics dropped to 14-3 to be second in the standings. Ruben Wolkowyski led the winners with 22 points, Maciej Lampe added 21, Kelly McCarty had 10 and Melvin Booker 14 for Khimki, that led 28-12 after 10 minutes and never looked back. Ksystof Lavrinovic had 16 points for Unics, Saulius Stombergas added 14, Jarod Stevenson had 13 and Jerry McCullough 11. Dynamo Moscow survived a tough battle and improved to 13-4 by edging Spartak St. Petersburg 77-78 in overtime on the road on Sunday. Lazaros Papadopoulos led the winners with 15 points, including a big basket to force overtime at 62-62, while Antonis Fotsis and Taquan Dean each added 13. Boniface Ndong led Spartak with 31 points and 13 rebounds. Dynamo trailed 73-67 with back-to-back triples by Sergey Monya rescued the guests. It all came down to the final seconds, as Ndong tied it at 77-77 but Dimitri Domani made 1 of 2 free throws to win it for Dynamo. In other games, University Surgut beat Spartak 65-57, Spartak Vgues topped Ural Great 84-79 while Lokomotiv thrashed Sibirtelekom 80-107 on the road.
