Romain Sato - Montepaschi Siena A solid leader stays atop the Italian League standings, none other than Montepaschi Siena, that now has a three-game advantage over everyone else. Montepaschi improved to 17-3 by thrashing Air Avellino 83-64 at home on Saturday behind 18 points from Romain Sato. VidiVici Bologna is second at 14-6 while Armani Jeans Milano stays third at 13-7 despite losing their respective games. Benetton Treviso and Eldo Napoli share the fourth place at 12-8. Benetton beat Whirlpool Varese 77-85 on the road with 20 points from Matteo Soragna, while Eldo bested Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia 95-80 at home on Sunday behind 15 points each from Ansu Sesay and Michel Morandais. Lottomatica Roma needed double overtime to edge TDShop.it Livorno 110-102 at home. Jon Stefansson led the way for Roma with 21 points. Snaidero Cucine Udine dropped to 8-12 due to a 86-77 road loss against Premiata Montegranaro while Angelico Biella rallied from a 13-point deficit in the final 3 minutes to edge Climamio 80-81 in Bologna. In other games, Tisettanta Cantu beat Siviglia Wear Teramo 67-60, Legea Scafati upset Armani Jeans Milano 76-55 while Upea Capo d'Orlando topped VidiVici Bologna 65-57.

Montepaschi Siena improved to 17-3 and stayed atop the standings by thrashing Air Avellino 83-64 at home on Saturday. Sato led the winners with 18 points, Joseph Forte added 15 while Rimantas Kaukenas had 12 for Montepaschi. Forte and Sato shined in the opening period while a jumper by Ben Eze gave Montepaschi a 28-12 lead after 10 minutes. Montepaschi soon boosted its margin to 42-22 and kept a safe lead all the way until the final buzzer. Benetton Treviso moved up to 12-8 by downing Whirlpool Varese 77-85 on the road on Saturday. Soragna paced the winners with 20 points, Marcus Goree added 18, Nikos Zisis had 12 and Terrell Lyday 11 for Benetton. Soragna, Lyday and a final three-pointer by Marco Mordente gave Benetton a 20-point lead, 25-45, at halftime. Varese did not recover and only rallied once the outcome was clear. Climamio Bologna dropped to 9-11 due to a 80-81 home loss against Angelico Biella. Erik Daniels led the winners with 19 points while Jamel Thomas added 15 and 16 rebounds. David Bluthenthal had 26 points and 11 rebounds for Climamio, Marco Belinelli added 14 while Alain Digbeu and Tyus Edney each scored 10 points for the hosts. Climamio led 76-63 with 3 minutes to go but Reece Gaines had 8 unanswered points and Taylor Coppenrath dunked it in a 0-12 run that brought Biella back to life. Bluthenthal gave Climamio a 80-75 lead but Antonio Porta followed a three-point play with a free throw while Gaines hit 2 more from the foul line to make Biella win the game in shocking fashion.

Eldo Napoli improved to 12-8 and stays third in the standings by beating Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia 95-80 at home on Sunday. Sesay and Morandais led the way for Napoli with 15 points apiece. Mason Rocca added 12, Valerio Spinelli and Larry O'Bannon each added 11 while Matteo Malaventura tallied 10 for Napoli. Free throws by Spinelli gave Napoli a 22-21 edge after 10 minutes and the hosts boosted its margin to 54-41 at halftime behind an outstanding Malaventura. Nothing changed after the break, as Spinelli hit a triple for a 76-58 Napoli margin early in the final period, enough for his team to stay ahead for good. Snaidero Cucine Udine dropped to 8-12 due to a 86-77 road loss against Premiata Montegranaro. Randolph Childress had 22 points for the winners. Kristaps Valters had 15 points for Udine, Jerome Allen had 14 and Joel Zacchetti 11. Udine led 37-40 at halftime and stayed in the game for 35 minutes, but Childress and Valerio Amoroso sealed the win for Montegranaro down the stretch. Lottomatica Roma needed double overtime to beat TDShop.it Livorno 110-102 at home and improve to 11-9 in the standings. Stefansson led the way for Roma with 21 points. Dejan Bodiroga added 19, Luca Garri and Alex Righetti each had 14, David Hawkins put up 12 and Roberto Chiacig 11 for Roma. Jason Rowe had 25 points for Livorno.
