Belgian League, Game 26: March 3-4, 2007
Spirou Charleroi stays unstoppable and keeps leading the Belgian League standings with a 19-7 record by beating Verviers Pepinster 72-84 on the road on Saturday. Greg Grays led Charleroi with 16 points, Damir Krupalija added 15 and Ralph Biggs 14 for the winners, that trailed 42-40 early in the second half. Krupalija had 10 quick points to make Charleroi get a 50-58 lead after 30 minutes. Charleroi boosted its margin to 52-71 and never looked back. Dexia Mons-Hainaut had to battle harder to edge Basket Gr Leuven 82-84 and improve to 14-12 in the standings. George Evans led the winners with 23 points, Kevin Houston added 22, Ali Berdiel 14 and Bingo Merriex 12. Sanex Antwerp G needed overtime to edge Liege basket 83-86 on the road on Saturday. David Toya had 24 points for Antwerp, that is second with a 16-9 record. Morris Finley led all scorers with 27 points for Liege, that rallied from a 12-point deficit in the final period to force overtime, 76-76, but it was not enough for the hosts. Euphony Bree had less troubles to beat Okapi Aalstar 72-87 and improve to 15-11 in the standings. Jim Cantamessa fired in 7 of 8 triples on his way to 28 points for Bree, that led 47-73 after 30 minutes to add a big road win. On Sunday, Telindus Oostende improved to 15-11 by edging Atomia Brussels 80-84 on the road. Rashad Wright paced the winners with 17 points, including free throws to put the victory on ice. Eric Hicks also had 17 points, Veselin Petrovic and Elvir Ovcina each added 11 while Sam Van Rossom and Titus Ivory chipped in 10 apiece for Oostende.
