German League, Game 23: March 3-4, 2007
Julius Jenkins - Alba Berlin Alba Berlin and EnBW Ludwigsburg keep tying for the first place in the German League standings, each with a 18-5 record. Alba Berlin downed RheinEnergie 70-81 in Cologne on Sunday. Kirk Penney led the winners with 20 points, Chris Owens added 19 and Julius Jenkins 17 for Alba. Immanuel McElroy had 17 points for RheinEnergie, Aleksandar Nadjfeji 14 and Demond Mallet 13 for the hosts, that dropped to 16-7. Jenkins, Owens and Penney shined early to give Alba a 13-24 lead after 10 minutes. Nadjfeji and Devin Green fueled the RheinEnergie rally in the second quarter, but a three-pointer by Owens helped Alba to keep a 36-44 halftime margin. McElroy paced the hosts after the break, but Koko Archibong and an outstanding Owens allowed Alba to stay ahead, 54-60, after 30 minutes. Jenkins and a three-pointer by Penney made Alba get a 61-71 lead wiith 4 minutes to go, enough to seal the outcome. EnBW Ludwigsburg needed overtime to down TBB Trier 98-107 on the road on Saturday. Michel Ferreira do Nascimento led 6 Ludwigsburg players in double digits with 22 points. Brose Baskets improved to 13-8 by simply overwhelming the Deutsche Bank Skyliners 48-81 in Frankfurt on Saturday. Chris Ensminger, Robert Garrett and Sean Dockery each had 13 points for Brose Baskets, that led 17-37 at halftime and never had troubles to add an easier than expected road win. In other games, Ratiopharm Ulm thrashed Sellbytel Baskets Nurnberg 86-58, Paderborn Baskets edged EWE Baskets Oldenburg 83-87 in overtime, New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig topped Walter Tigers Tubingen 66-76, the Artland Dragons bested Telekom Baskets Bonn 77-65, Bayer Giants Leverkusen upset Eisbaren Bremenhaven 67-69 while the Giessen 46ers defeated BG Karlsruhe 78-68.
