Adriatic League, Game 24: March 10-11, 2007
The battle atop the Adriatic League standings get tougher with just two games to go in the regular season, as Partizan and FMP now tie for the top spot at 19-5. FMP showed it is ready for its big ULEB Cup challenge against Lietuvos Rytas by beating Cibona 81-74 in Zeleznik on Saturday. Zoran Erceg led the winners with 18 points, Branko Cvetkovic added 16 while Andrew Wisniewski led Cibona with 19 points. Meanwhile, Partizan had less troubles than expected to thrash Bosna Asa BHT 76-97 in Sarajevo on Saturday. Predrag Drobnjak led the way for Partizan with 18 points while Luka Bogdanovic had 16. Hemofarm improved to 17-7 by thrashing Zagreb 72-91 on the road also on Saturday behind 15 points from Vanja Plisnic. In Belgrade, Milan Gurovic had 33 points and Pero Antic added 26 to lead Crvena Zvezda to a 96-91 home win against Helios Domzale. Union Olimpija improved to 12-12 by thrashing Split 67-91 on the road on Saturday behind 17 points from Goran Jurak. In other games, Geoplin Slovan bested Zadar 91-86 while Buducnost topped Siroki Prima Pivo 86-73 on Sunday.
FMP took the big showdown in the Adriatic League this weekend by edging Cibona 81-74 in Zeleznik on Saturday. FMP ties for the first place at 19-5 while Cibona dropped to 18-6. Erceg led the winners with 18 points, Cvetkovic added 16 and Predrag Samardziski 10 for FMP. Wisniewski had 19 points for Cibona while Barisa Krasic and Brent Wright each added 13 for the guests. An outstanding Samardziski and three-pointers by Marko Djerasimovic, Erceg and Djordje Micic allowed FMP to get a 46-40 halftime edge. Cibona recovered and a jumper by Luksa Andric gave the guests a 57-58 edge after 30 minutes. Wright gave Cibona its last lead, 71-72, with 3 minutes to go. Milos Teodosic and Cvetkovic fueled a final 6-0 run that sealed the win down the stretch. Partizan keeps leading the standings with a 19-5 record by thrashing Bosna Asa BHT 76-97 in Sarajevo on Saturday. Drobnjak led the way for Partizan with 18 points, Bogdanovic had 16, Kosta Perovic added 14 and Nikola Pekovic 10 for the winners. Partizan led 39-55 at halftime and did not find much trouble to keep controlling the game in the second half.
Hemofarm improved to 17-7 by thrashing Zagreb 72-91 on the road also on Saturday. Plisnic paced the winners with 15 points, Predrag Suput and Miljan Rakic each added 13, Vladan Vukosavljevic had 12 and Milenko Topic 10 for Hemofarm, that led 57-63 after 30 minutes. Rakic, Milenko Topic and Nebojsa Joksimovic helped the guests to boost their margin to 64-79 and cruise to an important win. Crvena Zvezda had to battle hard to edge Helios Domzale 96-91 and improve to 13-11 in the standings. Gurovic led the winners with 33 points, Antic added 26, Antonio Burks 13 and Vuk Radivojevic 10. Zvezda led 81-78 midway through the final period but Gurovic, Antic and Burks shined to make Zvezda add another win. Union Olimpija improved to 12-12 by thrashing Split 67-91 on the road on Saturday. Jurak led Olimpija with 17 points. Domen Lorbek added 13, Teemu Rannikko had 12, Miha Zupan and Manu Markoishvili each tallied 11 while Slavko Duscak bagged 10 for the winners. Olimpija led 11-26 after 10 minutes and never looked back.
