British League, Week 26: March 9-11, 2007
Poujoulat Heat Guildford keeps leading the British Championship standings with a 25-5 record by registering back-to-back wins this weekend. The Heat beat the Plymouth Raiders 81-89 on the road on Saturday behind 27 points from Brian Dux and 16 from Mike Martin. Carlton Aaron, who led the Raiders to win the British Trophy last Sunday, led the hosts with 31 points. The Raiders led 63-58 after 30 minutes and still were ahead with less than 2 minutes to go, but a 0-9 run allowed the Heat to seal the win. The Heat had less troubles to beat the Leicester Riders 96-81 at home on Sunday behind 28 points from Daniel Gilbert. Meanwhile, the Sheffield Sharks needed overtime to beat the Riders 94-101 on the road on Saturday and improve to 23-6 in the standings. Blake Shelton paced the winners with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Jeff Bonds posted a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds while Andrew Alleyne had 21 for the hosts. Shelton hit a running triple at the end of regulation to force overtime, 88-88, while Eddie Cage sealed the win with free throws. In other games on Friday, the Chester Jets beat the Marshall MK Lions 75-99 while the Newcastle Eagles thrashed London United 113-96. On Sunday, the Scottish Rocks edged the Lions 110-104 while the Eagles beat the Chester Jets 83-90.
