Greek League, Game 20: March 10-11, 2007
Aris TT Bank ended an 18-game road losing streak at AEK Athens in the most newsworthy game of the Greek League this weekend. The team from Thessaloniki hadn’t won a road game at AEK since the 1991-92 season, but they came up big this time to thrash them 64-89. Alex Scales scored 20 and Jeremiah Massey posted a double-double for the victors. Meanwhile, defending champion Panathinaikos added another easy away victory over AE Larissa 65-82, while Olympiacos celebrated its 82nd anniversary by beating Olympia Larissa at home 74-60. PAOK edged Maroussi 61-60 in a thriller, while Panellinios and Egaleo downed Apollon Patras and Makedonikos, respectively. The game between Olympiada Patras and Panionios was postponed due to the latter's FIBA Eurocup fixtures. It has been rescheduled for March 24.
At the OAKA Olympic Hall, Aris took advantage of AEK's zone defense to score a historical 64-89 win. At the beginning of the third quarter, Scales sank three consecutive three-pointers, which allowed the visitors to build a double-digit margin and stroll to an easy victory. Scales finished with 20 points and grabbed 5 boards, while Jeremiah Massey finished with 15 points and 10 boards and Giannis Giannoulis scored 12 points. For AEK, Nestoras Kommatos had 13 points and 8 boards and Prodromos Nikolaidis and Brent Scott scored 10 points each.
It was business as usual for Panathinaikos in Larissa, as the Greens downed AEL 65-82. Dejan Tomasevic, who returned to the team's Greek League roster in place of Tony Delk, and Mike Batiste scored 13 points apiece, while Sani Becirovic and Dimitris Diamantidis contributed 12 points each. Giorgos Tsiakos led the hosts with 19 points, Arthur Lee added 16 and Nikos Papanikolopoulos 13. Giannis Bourroussis came up big to lead Olympiacos to a 74-60 home victory over Olympia Larissa. The 25-year old forward finished the game with a double-double of 18 points and 10 boards. Alex Acker bagged 19 points and dished 7 assists, while Henry Domeracant and Nikos Barlos added 13 points each. For the visitors, Giorgos Printezis scored 14 points and Vladimir Krstic added 12.
In Thessaloniki, PAOK trailed by 15 points late in the third quarter, but survived to beat Maroussi 61-60. Giannis Kalambokis sealed the victory with a big three for a 61-58 lead and finished the game with 18 points, while Vladimir Scepanovic bagged 16 and Lazaros Agadakos 11. Alexis Kyritsis scored 17 points for Maroussi, Danya Abrams had 12 and Charis Charalampidis 11. Led by veteran Nikos Economou, who scored 18, Panellinios beat Apollon Patras 83-72. Anthony Goldwire added 13 points, Nikos Argyropoulos 12 and Giannis Gerorgalis 10 for Panellinios. Ivo Josipovic led Apollon with 20 points and 15 boards, while Jimmy Oliver had 15 points and Slobodan Bozovic 14. Rashad Anderson scored 22 points, Vassilis Soulis 19 and Keydren Clark 17 to lead Egaleo to an important home win over Makedonikos 84-63. Ozi Misic finished with 13 in defeat.
