Polish League, Game 21: March 10-11, 2007
Donatas Slanina - Prokom Trefl Prokom Trefl Sopot remains atop the Polish League by two victories after scoring an 83-72 home decision over Polpharma Starogard on Saturday. Second place Turow Zgorzelec refused to allow the defensing champs to increase their lead easily beating bottom-of-the-table Unia Tarnow 56-102 on the road as all 11 players got on the scoreboard, led by Thomas Kelati with 19 points. The game marked the first time that Turow, the best defensive team in league, scored over 100 points. The biggest surprise of the weekend took place on Sunday in Warsaw, where Polonia beat Asco Slask Wroclaw 83-72. The hosts were trailing by 5 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but closed the game with 11-28 run led by All-Star Game MVP and Slum Dunk Contest winner Grady Reynolds, who finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Otis Hill scored 25 points to lead Anwil to a 70-80 road victory over Polpak Swiecie. Chris Thomas added 15 and Andrzej Pluta 14 for Wloclawek, which has won four of its last five games to move up in the standings. Marcin Sroka scored a season-high 24 for Polpak. In other games, Kotwica Kolobrzeg easily beat Sokolow Znicz Jaroslaw 94-67 behind Jason McLeish's 19 points and Chris Daniels all-around performance including 16 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. Energa Czarni outlasted Gipsar Stal 56-59 in a defensive struggle behind 18 points and 7 rebounds from Omar Barlett.

Prokom controlled its game against Polpharma from the beginning and held a double-digit advantage at halftime. The visitors mounted a second-half comeback, but the crucial moment arrived in the middle of the fourth quarter, when Prokom drilled three straight triples and escaped for good. Donatas Slanina led the Polish champs with 17 points – including four triples and 6 assists. Rashid Atkins added 16 and 5, Christian Dalmau finished with 14 points, while Filip Dylewicz amassed 11 points and 9 rebounds. Prokom’s defense also limited Polpharma’s leader and league-leading scorer, Patrick Okafor, to just 10 points on 4-of-16 shooting. David Logan lead the guests with 17. Prokom was again without injured playmaker Tomas Pacesas, though veteran big man Adam Wojcik returned after two weeks. Wojcik was scoreless in 6 minutes.
