Israeli League, Game 14: March 10-11, 2007
Yotam Halperin - Maccabi Elite Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv and Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem added another win to their respective records in the 14th week of the Israeli League, but went about it in much different ways. Maccabi grabbed a key 91-101 road win at Nahariya despite Nikola Vujcic played only 8 minutes due to an injury, while Hapoel cruised to a 78-97 road win at Givat Shmuel. Bnei Hasharon remained high in the standings with an easy 91-71 home win over Ironi Ashkelon. Bnei Hasharon trailed 37-38 at the end of the first half, but Lee Nailon and Cookie Belcher carried the hosts to a 20-point win. Nailon finished with 23 points and Belcher had 20, while Ashkelon's Ricardo Marsh posted 18 points. Hapoel Galil Elyon avenged a buzzer-beater loss to Gilboa/Afula from earlier in the season with a 95-96 road win. Kenny Adeleke and Tre Simmons went 4-for-4 from the line down the stretch to win the game. Six players scored in double-digit for Galil, led by 19 points from Sasa Bratic and 16 by Adeleke, who also grabbed 11 boards. Jermaine Hall had 21 for the hosts. Darryl Wilson drilled 6 triples on the way to 26 points to lead Ironi Ramat Gan past Rishon Lezion 92-88. John Allen added 18 and Izik Okhanon finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Brian Tolbert had a season high with 33 for Rishon.

Maccabi's first visit to Nahariya this season ended up with a surprising loss in the national cup. Nahariya had another upset on its mind as it led after three quarters, but Maccabi regrouped behind Goran Jeretin to win 91-101. Yotam Halperin made a rare start and carried Maccabi to a 23-28 lead at the end of the first quarter. With star center Vujcic resting, Maccabi built an 8-point lead, but Nahariya fought back. Raviv Limonad in a big first half made it just 44-47 for the visitors at half time. Nahariya stormed out of the locker rooms to take the lead early in the third, but Maccabi didn't blink. Noel Felix and Sharon Shason gave the lead back to Maccabi, however Limonad pushed the locals to a 73-70 lead after three quarter. Halperin started the fourth with some key moves, and Maccabi took another small lead. Jeretin stepped up in the closing minutes, first with a bucket and a bonus form the line that gave Maccabi an 8-point lead and when Nahariya tried to push back, Jeretin released two hits from downtown to seal the win. Halperin and Shason finished with 17 points each, Jeretin had 16, and Simas Jasaitis and Yaniv Green scored 11 point each. Jeff Greer and Limonad scored 23 each for Nahariya, Juan Mendez added 14 and Barak Peleg 13.

Back in action for the first time since being eliminated from the ULEB Cup last week, Hapoel put on an offensive display to light up Givat Shmuel 78-97 on Saturday night. Givat Shmuel controlled the game in the early minutes, but Hapoel took over quickly to finish the first quarter up 19-25. Hapoel's run stopped only after 20 unanswered points to take a 14-point lead, only to see Givat Shmuel reply with a 12-0 run. However Hapoel still finished the first half up 39-50. But Hapoel left no doubts in the second half, increasing the gap to 55-77 at the end of the third. Givat Shmuel lost all hope at that point and the last 10 minutes turned into garbage time. Mario Austin once again was the top scorer for Hapoel with 23 points, while Terrence Morris added 19, Timmy Bowers 18, Dror Hagag 14 and Guy Pnini 10. Bo Davis had 24 and Jason Straight 23 in defeat.
