Adriatic League, Game 25: March 16-17, 2007
With just one game to go in the Adriatic League regular season, it is already known which teams advanced to the playoffs. Hemofarm joined FMP, Partizan and Cibona and it is only unknown which the playoff matchups will be. FMP is now atop the standings with a 20-5 record by downing Union Olimpija 59-77 in Ljubljana on Friday behind 14 points from Djordje Micic. Cibona and Partizan tie for the second place at 19-6. Cibona edged cross-town rivals Zagreb 92-87 at home on Saturday. Brent Wright led the winners with 19 points on 9-of-10 free throws and 9 rebounds. Meanwhile, Partizan dropped to 19-6 due to a 89-85 road loss against Siroki Prima Pivo. Hemofarm clinched a playoff spot by downing Geoplin Slovan 92-76. Vanja Plisnic paced the winners with 28 points on 9-of-11 two-pointers and 2-of-3 triples in just 18 minutes while Milenko Topic added 24 for Hemofarm. Meanwhile, Milan Gurovic had 37 points to make Zvezda beat Bosna Asa BHT 93-84 in Belgrade on Saturday. In other games, Zadar overwhelmed Buducnost 80-47 while Helios Domzale thrashed Split 92-62.
FMP became the exclusive leader atop the standings by downing Union Olimpija 59-77 in Ljubljana on Friday. Micic led the winners with 14 points while Ivan Zigeranovic added 10 for FMP. Slavko Duscak had 14 points for Olimpija, Manu Markoishvili 12 and Ivica Jurkovic 11 for the hosts, whose playmaker Teemu Rannikko left the game with a knee injury. Back-to-back baskets by Markosihvili and a jumper by Sandi Cebular gave Olimpija a 19-16 edge after 10 minutes. Zigeranovic had 9 points in the second quarter to make FMP get a 33-40 lead. Duscak and Jurkovic brought Olimpija back into the game, but a 0-7 run gave FMP a 49-60 lead early in the fourth quarter. Olimpija never recovered and FMP got an important road win. Hemofarm made it to the playoffs by downing Geoplin Slovan 92-76. Plisnic paced the winners with 28 points on 9-of-11 two-pointers and 2-of-3 triples in just 18 minutes. Topic added 24 while Aleksej Nesovic had 12 for Hemofarm, that improved to 18-7 in the standings. Free throws by Bojan Bakic gave Hemofarm a 21-15 lead after 10 minutes. Slovan stayed in the game until the beginning of the second half, in which Topic led a 9-0 run that allowed Hemofarm to get a 76-62 after 30 minutes. Plisnic had 14 points in the final 8 minutes to make Hemofarm seal a playoff ticket.
Cibona had to battle harder than expected to edge cross-town rivals Zagreb 92-87 at home on Saturday. Wright led the winners with 19 points on 9-of-10 free throws and 9 rebounds. Chris Warren added 17 while Barisa Krasic and Marton Bader each had 14 for Cibona, that improved to 19-6 in the standings.
