Adriatic League, Game 3: October 10, 2007
Red Star used a 16-2 fourth-quarter run to pull away from Cibona en route to a 106-93 victory that leaves the side from Belgrade in first place at the end of the third round of Adriatic League play on Wednesday. Tadija Dragicevic scored 30 for Red Star, which took advantage of FMP beating Partizan Igokea 90-80 and Hemofarm topping Buducnost 94-72 to remain the last undefeated team in the competition at 3-0. Meanwhile, Jasmin Hukic scored 21 to lead Union Olimpija to a 59-74 win at Zadar, which earned it a share of second place. Slovenian champion Helios Domzale picked up its first win by downing Siroki Prima pivo 90-79 behind Robert Troha's 19 points. Vojvodina Srbijagas was also a first-time winner by beating Zagreb Croatia on the road 79-99 as Milos Bojovic and Vladimir Golubovic scored 22 apiece, while KK Split got 22 from Marlon Garnett to win 65-80 at Geoplin Slovan.
Red Star used a 16-2 fourth-quarter run to pull away from Cibona en route to a 106-93 victory. The game was close in the early going, even though the hosts took a 9-point lead late in the opening period before Cibona came back. The visitors went ahead 41-42 midway through the second quarter on Sam Hoskin free throws, but Mladen Sljivancanin scored back-to-back baskets during a 9-0 spurt to ensure Red Star a 55-47 halftime advantage. Cibona kept it close in the third quarter, closing to 66-65 on Chris Warren free throws, but never took the lead. Red Star was able to pull away for good midway through the last quarter. With the score 85-80, Dragicevic hit a pair of threes and threw down a dunk, while Omar Cook dished 3 assists during a 16-2 run to seal the win. Dragicevic led all scorers with 30 points, Cook scored 26, dished 9 assists and had 5 steals, Nenad Misanovic dominated inside to the tune of 17 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks and Steven Markovic added 11 for Red Star. Larry Ayuso scored 27 for Cibona, followed by Hoskin with 21, Warren's 18 and Damir Mulaomerovic with 10.
In Zadar, the hosts led by 5 heading into the final period, but Olimpija stepped up on defense and limited Zadar to just 8 fourth-quarter points on the way to a 59-74 win. Maurice Bailey and Ronell Taylor scored 4 points each in a late 0-11 run that put the visitors in control for good. Hukic led all scorers with 21, Goran Dragic added 14 and captain Marko Milic shined with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Corey Brewer and Jure Lalic scored 16 apiece for Zadar. Young FMP rose to the occasion and help off rival 90-80. The Serbian champs got within 74-72 midway through the fourth quarter on a Milt Palacio basket, but FMP responded with Dragan Labovic and Predrag Samardziski, who each scored twice to make it 82-73 and Partizan never recovered. Samardziski had a big night with 26 points, Bojan Krstovic added 18, Marko Derasimovic 13 and Labovic 12 for FMP. Nikola Pekovic paced Partizan with 20, Milenko Tepic scored 18 and Palacio added 15 in defeat. Buducnost trailed only 67-62 heading into the fourth quarter and then cut the gap to 1, but Miljan Pavkovic and Vladan Vukosavljevic responded quickly with 11 unanswered points during a 21-2 run that effectively ended the game. Vukosavljevic led all scorers with 28, Nebojsa Joksimovic came through with 22 points and 6 assists, Goran Jagodnik added 16 and Pavkovic 10. Bojan Bakic and Ivan Maras scored 13 each and Vladimir Micov and Zarko Rakocevic 12 apiece for Buducnost.
