Austrian League, Game 1: September 30-October 1
Allianz Swans Gmunden used a 23-5 second quarter to take the game over on the way to a 97-72 victory over BasketClubs Vienna in the teams' Austrian League opener on Sunday. The Swans, who will make their ULEB Cup debut this season, outscored Vienna by 10 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach early. Deteri Mayes drilled 6 three-pointers on his way to 34 points for Gmunden, Ian Boylan added 14 points and 7 assists, Peter Hutter scored 13, Kevin Johnson had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Matthias Mayer contributed 10. Paris Bryant posted 30 for Vienna in defeat. The biggest win on opening night went to WBC Kraftwerk Wels, which got 22 and 21 points respectively from Kendrick Davis and Casey Archibald in thrashing UBSC Graz 90-56. In other games, BSC Raiffeisen Furstenfeld scored a 76-93 road win at Xion Dukes Klosterneuburg behind Anthony Shavies's 18-point, 14-assist effort, okoSTADT Gussing Knights edged Gunners Oberwart 74-75 thanks to 22 points apiece from Dragan Miletic and Daniel Mullner and the Kapfenberg Bulls topped St. Polten 65-58 as Shawn Ray netted 18. In Monday's lone game, Davor Lamesic had 28 points and 9 rebounds for Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions in an 80-64 victory over Worthersee Piraten.
