Belgian League, Regular Season, Game 28: April 5, 2008
Justin Hamilton - Spirou Basket Basket Bree became the team to beat in the Belgian League by defeating defending champion Telindus BC Oostende 66-71 on Saturday. Bree dominated the first half before Oostende stormed back, but Bree held on down the stretch. Dor Fisher dominated the paint to the tune of 17 points, 16 rebounds and 6 blocked shots to pace Bree, which improved to 21-6 – one win more that second placed Oostende with a game at hand. Dexia Mons-Hainaut slipped back after losing 72-74 to Generali Okapi Aalstar, while Spirou Basket Charleroi matched Mons with 19 wins by crushing Optima Gent 93-61. Charleroi finished the first period on a 15-0 run to take total control. Matt Walsh scored a season-high 24 points and Justin Hamilton dished a career-high 10 assists for Charleroi. Meanwhile Spotter Leuven dumped Antwerp Diamond Giants 91-79 in overtime as Ron Lewis erupted for 32.

In a battle of this season’s Belgian League titans, Basket Bree defeated defending champion Telindus BC Oostende 66-71. Nick Jacobson scored 7 points during a 2-16 first-period charge as Bree raced out to a double-digit lead. The visitors then limited Oostende to 8 second-period points to take a 22-46 halftime lead. However, in the third quarter, Oostende reeled off 15 unanswered points at one point as it cut the gap to 4. A Veselin Petrovic got the hosts as close as 3, but big baskets by Fisher and Doron Perkins wrapped up the victory for Bree. Fisher dominated the paint to the tune of 17 points, 16 rebounds and 6 blocked shots to pace Bree, Hodge scored 17 points as well, Jacobson added 14 and Perkins finished with 13 points, 11 assists and 4 steals. Greg Brunner led Oostende with 13 points and 9 rebounds, Elvir Ovcina had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Sam Van Rossom and Petrovic had 10 points apiece.

Spirou Basket Charleroi crushed Optima Gent 93-61. Charleroi finished the first period on a 15-0 run to take a 20-point lead, which it continued to stretch by outscoring Gent in each successive quarter. Matt Walsh scored a season-high 24 points, Justin Hamilton scored 16 and dished a career-high 10 assists, Tremmell Darden and Wes Wilkinson added 12 points apiece and Jonathan Tabu had 10. James Miller led Gent with 18.
