French League, Game 2: October 5-6, 2007
Defending French League champion Chorale Roanne picked up its first win of the season by downing SIG Strasbourg 83-73 on Saturday. Brion Rush poured in 20 points and Marc Salyers added 18 for Roanne, which held a double-figure advantage for much of the game. Meanwhile, Sluc Nancy, Orleans and Adecco Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne are the only teams with two wins after two games. Nancy stuffed Paris-Levallois 88-76 thanks to Ricardo Greer's 23 points, Orleans edged Pau-Orthez 68-65 as Benjamin Dewar scored 18 and Asvel beat Dijon 91-74 on Friday with Yohann Sangare and Lamayn Wilson leading a balanced-scoring effort with 15 apiece. Sam Clancy's 24 points and 17 rebounds weren't enough for LeMans, which was upset at home by Hyeres-Toulon 75-81. Sean Colson sniped 33 for the winners. In other games, Cholet scored a 74-68 win over Chalon/Saone, Vichy toped Clermont 52-46 and Gravelines-Dunkerque outlasted Le Havre 104-110 after three overtimes.
Roanne bounced back from an opening-night loss by beating Strasbourg 83-73. The hosts took control early, leading 29-17 after 10 minutes and kept it up the rest of the way for a big win. Brion Rush led the way with 20 points, Marc Salyers added 18 points and 9 rebounds, Marc-Antoine Pellin scored 16, Pape Badiane had 15 points and 7 boards and Adam Hess posted 9 rebounds in 39 minutes. Eddie Shannon led Strasbourg with 16 points, Rob Lewin added 13, Afik Nissim 12 and Kevin Houston 11. Roanne's Euroleague counterpart Le Mans had trouble with Hyeres-Toulon, dropping a home decision 75-81. The hosts led 45-33 at halftime and 60-55 after 30 minutes, but were outscored 15-26 in the fourth quarter as Hyeres-Toulon walked away with the win. Sean Colson had 33 points and Tony Williams 18 for the winners. Sam Clancy shined with 24 points and 17 rebounds for Le Mans, Luka Bogdanovic added 18 and Nebojsa Bogavac 11.
Nancy and Asvel each hold a share of first place after winning their second in a row. Nancy topped Paris-Levallois 88-76 as Ricardo Greer came through with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Paris actually started off stronger, leading 18-27 after 10 minutes, but the hosts won each of the remaining three quarters to take the game. Zabian Dowdell added 20 points, had Cyril Julian 19 points and 8 boards and Jeff Greer and Michael Bauer posted 10 each for Nancy. Je'Kel Foster scored 21 to lead Paris. Asvel jumped out to a 31-9 lead on the way to a 91-74 win over Dijon 91-74 on Friday. Yohann Sangare and Lamayn Wilson scored 15 apiece, Robert Conley 11 and Chevon Troutman 10 for the winners. Maleye Ndoye put up 27 in defeat. Also on Friday, Chalon came up short in the fourth against Cholet, losing 74-68. Anthony Dobbins was the protagonist for Cholet with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 7 steals. Jermaine Guice posted 18 for Chalon, John Ford 15 and Rowan Barrett 12. Orleans pulled out a nail-biter over Pau-Orthez 68-65 thanks to Benjamin Dewar and his 18 points. Brandon Heath added 14 points and 8 boards and Theron Smith had 10 and 11 for the winners. Shaun Fine scored 25 and David Young 15 to lead Pau in defeat.
